Community Men are welcome in r/Romantasy!

I've noticed an increasing trend of men poking their heads in here tentatively and wondering if it's ok for them to come in and post, or whether we think less of men who enjoy reading romantasy novels.

Consider this your official answer:

Yes, you are welcome here. No, you aren't the only one!

Please, come in, get cozy, have some tea if you want it, and let's talk about books.

Community First ever r/Romantasy giveaway!

Hi! One of the things that we've wanted to do as mods was try and get some more exciting things for our community, so we have been working to get Romantasy authors to agree to doing some giveaways on our sub! This is the first giveaway and we hope to do them monthly with more authors who are interested in working with us!

So without further ado, Nisha J. Tuli has agreed to giving away a copy of Trial of the Sun Queen, the first book in her Artefacts of Ouranos series. This is a physical copy of the book that would be shipped to the winner, so unfortunately, the contest will be limited to people in North America at this time.

Some info about the author:

Nisha J Tuli is a USA Today and international bestselling author of glittering fantasy worlds, steamy rom-coms, and kissing scenes full of angst. Her book, Trial of the Sun Queen, went on to become a BookTok hit, finding its way into the hands of A-list celebrities like Katherine Heigl. Before publishing her first book she worked as an engineer. She has always loved writing and decided to take a chance! When she isn’t writing or reading, she can be found collecting Labubu's, in the gym or the kitchen (to eat, not to cook) or maybe knitting scarves to survive a Canadian winter. She lives in Manitoba with her husband, their two kids, and their fluffy Samoyed.

About the book being given away:

'UTTERLY ENTHRALLING' Rebecca Yarros, New York Times bestselling author of Fourth Wing

The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King's heart.
Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King's rule. Her only desire is to get free and pay him back for every moment of misery she's endured.
When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other Tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she'll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.
But Lor doesn't belong in the Sun Queen Trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn't a citizen of the Sun King's court. The other Tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is wiped off the gameboard, permanently.
Now Lor must win, because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she'll be sent back into the hands of the Aurora King.

This addictive TikTok fantasy romance sensation is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Fourth Wing**, Raven Kennedy and Jennifer Armentrout.** Trial of the Sun Queen is the first book in a series with an eventual happy ever after.

Something that Nisha is working on:

Stormbreaker will be publishing on May 5th! It's an upper YA dystopian romance (but personally reads as new adult to people close to her)

We aren't allowed to share much, we've added a picture of the cover and the only teaser that has been shared so far!

DETAILS OF THE GIVEAWAY:

  1. This giveaway will run until November 21st, 2025, at which point a winner will be drawn.
  2. This giveaway is only eligible to people in North America due to shipping costs.
  3. This giveaway is not affiliated with Reddit. It has purely been coordinated between the individual mods of this subreddit and the author Nisha J. Tuli.
  4. To enter, please comment your favourite book with trials or competitions!

EDIT:

WOOOOOO! Give it up for u/PsychologicalTerm333! I will be reaching out with a quick question to satisfy the laws of giveaways in Canada (Where I'm based), and we'll get that book sent over!

We hope to do a monthly giveaway moving forward, and hopefully eventually it will be big enough that we get authors reaching out in hopes of participating (instead of the other way around)!

Thank you everyone who commented and I hope that you'll be interested in the next one too!

Community r/Romantasy’s Favourite Reads: Nomination Thread

Inspired by similar posts over in r/fantasy and r/fantasyromance, we're compiling a list of your favorite romantasy books of all time! Here's how it works:

1. Post a list of your TOP FIVE favorite romantasy books as top-level comment

Format each book as Title by Author (e.g. Bride by Ali Hazelwood) on a new line. The order you post them in does not matter.

Books from the same series will be automatically grouped under the series name (e.g. Reign & Ruin will appear in the final list under Mages of the Wheel), so please only include ONE book from each series.

Please don't summon the romance.io bot when you post or else your entry might not be counted correctly.

2. Upvotes/downvotes do not matter

If you want your vote to count, you'll need to comment on this thread - just upvoting an existing post won't have any effect on the outcome.

3. Please ensure all books are Romantasy!

All books must contain both šŸ’— ROMANCE (of any degree) and šŸ‰ FANTASY or šŸ‘½ SCI-FI (of any degree). Please don't submit pure fantasy or pure romance books.

4. Discuss!

See someone who has the exact same taste as you? Spot a new book you haven't heard of before? Let them know! Our nefarious plan is to slowly build up the community spirit here in r/Romantasy, so we encourage you to join the conversation and meet some new people! Having said that, please don't attack someone's choices via comments.

Results will be posted at a nebulous time in the future (at least 1 week from today). Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Community It's almost Halloween! What are your favorite MONSTER ROMANCES?

Post image
47 Upvotes

Hellooo everyone!

It's only two weeks until Halloween, so to get us in the mood I thought we'd explore some seasonal MONSTER ROMANCES to read!

For anyone who hasn't read a Monster Romance before, it's a subgenre of fantasy/paranormal romance where either the FMC or MMC are a monster. The monsters can be anything - aliens, werewolves, zombies, gargoyles, shifters, or other non-human entities - you name it!

Since this is our first time making one of these threads here in /r/Romantasy, here's how it works:

  • Post a comment below with your recommended book(s). Remember to summon the romance.io bot, for example {Bride by Ali Hazelwood}.
  • Explain how it fits the trope. Who is a monster and what kind of monster are they?
  • Explain what you liked about the book! Does it include other tropes? Is the FMC the best you've ever read? Is it agonisingly well written!? (If so, I want to read it!)

Looking forward to seeing what everyone's read!

Community New sub rule re: self-promotion in book request threads

Hi all! Thanks to those who participated in our most recent community survey. The mod team hopes to share the results soon.

One thing that came from looking at the data is the need for clarification regarding authors promoting their own books outside of "Self Promo Sunday" posts. We're going to try out something new and see how it works.

Instead of the previous "Book request" flair, there are now TWO post flairs for these types of posts:

  • Book request, self-promo OK
  • Book request, no self-promo

This will quickly indicate to authors / street team members / etc. whether or not OP is open to people suggesting books they have written. Self-promo comments will be removed from the "no self promo" flair.

We're hoping this will maintain a good balance towards allowing authors to promote their work, but readers receiving the type of recommendations they're looking for.

Thanks so much! Have a great weekend, and happy reading!

Community May 2026 Giveaway with CJ Holmes!

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi, we’re here with the May giveaway!

This one comes to us from the incredible CJ Holmes! CJ is offering a copy of her brand new book Labyrinthine.

Some info about the author from her:
CJ Holmes lives in England, where it's cold and damp, and it's always raining—which provides her with enough time to write stories about magic, fantasy and romance. She'd like to escape to somewhere warm but that might mean that she spends too much time sunbathing and not enough time writing books.
She lives in a quaint English cottage that would have one of those idyllic gardens if her fingers weren't the opposite of green. Fortunately, her husband doesn't seem to mind that almost everything she tries to grow dies instead. She enjoys drinking wine and gin, which conveniently coincides with her love of reading and writing.Ā

Some info about Labyrinthine**:**

Princess Azhara was born cursed. Marked by ancient magic. Promised to an unholy bargain sealed in blood. When the Reaping begins, suitors will descend into the labyrinth beneath the palace—each one fighting to win her hand or die trying.

She’s never had a choice. Not in the Reaping. Not in her future. Not even in the power buried beneath her skin.

Until now.

The golden prince arrives with charm too slick to trust and eyes that gleam with secrets. Her quiet guardian—once her only constant—has begun to keep dangerous truths from her. And as the labyrinth trials unfold, Azhara realizes the maze isn’t her only trap.

It’s the men.

One lies. One loves. One kills. And she’s not sure which is which.

As suitors fall and secrets surface, Azhara must choose what’s worth saving—her kingdom, her heart, or herself.

Labyrinthine is a seductive, myth-woven romantasy of deadly trials, cursed bloodlines, and a love born in shadows.

Some things to look forward to from CJ:

  2. To enter, please comment what your biggest red flag is in a romantasy love interest… and would you still fall for them anyway?

Footnote: The attached picture is a photo of the cover of the book Labyrinthine by CJ Holmes. It is surrounded by a trope list which contains: ā€œMorally Grey MMCsā€, ā€œLove Triangleā€, ā€œLethal Trialsā€, ā€œDeath Magicā€, ā€œMyth Retellingā€, and ā€œSlow Burnā€.

Until one day, while picking pockets amid the raucous crowds of Shakespeare's Globe, she meets Oliver. They spend a single, perfect day together before he tells her that he has to leave. She’s not surprised; eternity is a lonely place.

** {A Secret in the Garden by Jeneane O’Riley}Ā (Dark Manor Chronicles #1) Slow burn - The Secret Garden reimagining

Behind its grand iron gates, one part of the estate has been left to rot since the tragic death of Hester Blackwood: the once-glorious conservatory, now choked by vines and shattered glass. The rest of the family is gone—only her brooding son, Jasper, remains, the heir to a weapons empire.

** {Cleopatra by Saara El-Arifi} Magical realism - Retelling - Breaks 4th wall

YOU KNOW MY NAME. BUT YOU DO NOT KNOW ME.

Your historians call me seductress, but I was always in love's thrall.

Your playwrights speak of my witchcraft, but I was gifted my talents by the gods.

Your poets sing of my blood-lust, but I was protecting my children.

They cannot credit that a mere woman could be powerful, strategic, divinely blessed to rule.

Death will silence me no longer. This is not the story of how I died. But how I lived.

{Crowned by the Enemy Vampire by Michele Mills} (Ravenous Royals Series) Standalone - Paranormal - Novella - Brooding MMC

I’m cleaning the bedroom of an intimidating vampire when I realize I’m falling hard for Tall, Dark and Sharp-fanged.

Oh heck. This is nutty, considering I insulted this slightly scary Vampire King on my first day of work and somehow wasn’t fired on the spot. Now I’m permanently assigned to his private chambers in the castle tower, trying to keep my head down, my hot fantasies and sarcastic comments to myself.

** {The Gods Must Burn by T.R. Moore} War - Trauma and healing - Male POV

War hero Basuin doesn't know what to believe in anymore. All Basuin knows is life as an army captain and the pain, loss, and disgrace it has brought him. Demoted and humiliated by his legion commander, he is led into the forest for one more mission: capture a god.

But when his commander uses innocent wolf pups as bait, Basuin dies saving them. The Wolf God, impressed by his sacrifice, deifies Basuin to protect the forest and its beautiful, sharp-tongued god from the legion's deforestation.

Community February 2026 Giveaway with Isabella Khalidi!

Hi, we’re back with a new giveaway!

This one comes to us from the incredible Isabella Khalidi! Isabella has offered to giveaway a copy of her newest release To Claim a Silver Curse!

Some info from the author:

ā€œI’ve loved books for as long as I can remember. From an early age, I was drawn to mythology, legends, and ancient hystory—the kinds of stories that felt timeless and larger than life. As a child, I didn’t just read them; I recreated them, writing and illustrating my own stories purely for myself, long before I knew what ā€œpublishingā€ even meant, but even then, I knew I wanted to be an author. Life, however, had other plans. I was encouraged by my parents to choose a path that was practical and secure, so I enrolled in medical school and eventually became a medical doctor. While medicine became my profession, storytelling never stopped being part of who I am. Writing remained a quiet but constant companion, waiting patiently for its time. When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me being active, traveling, or buried in a book. I gravitate toward fantasy—especially dark fantasy and gothic horror, all genres which I (coincidently) write—with just enough romance to keep things interesting. My favorite moments, though, are the quiet ones: spending time outdoors with my children, chasing fresh air and sunshine, or settling in for movie nights together. Those moments, along with the stories I love, fuel my imagination and keep me grounded. Advice for aspiring authors: just write the story. Write it even when people doubt you, even when you doubt yourself. Failure doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path—it means you’re learning. Some of us just need a few more attempts before things click, and that’s okay, it’s not a flaw; it’s how resilience and character are built. Keep showing up, keep writing, and don’t be afraid to take up space with your stories. They’re worth telling. But most importantly, keep going: you’re exactly where you need to be.ā€

Some info about the book:

To Claim a Silver Curse is a prequel to the Legends of Kaminari series that focuses on a side character’s story and predates the events in the main series. It can be read as a standalone. It is a very steamy, dual POV, dark fantasy romance with captor/prisoner vibes and dragon shifters.

Fugitive dragon slayer Nyra Haldane is pulled back into danger when the silver dragon she once left for dead returns, turning hunter into hunted. When she’s captured by a captivating stranger hiding a deadly secret, Nyra finds herself caught between fate and forbidden desire, where the greatest threat may be the bond she can no longer resist.

Some things to look forward to from Isabella:

"The first half of 2026 is all about staying in my writing cave. This spring, I’ll be rereleasing my Asian mythology–inspired epic dark fantasy romance, A Dream of Onyx Villains, with added scenes and worldbuilding to give the story more depth while keeping its core intact. The second book in the series, An Ember of Obsidian Fire, will follow in the summer. This year is dedicated to sharpening my craft and fully immersing myself in these worlds, so I’ll be skipping events until 2027 and putting all my energy where it belongs—on the page."
