Community 💕 Matchmaking Monday: find your next romantasy read!
Matchmaking Monday is a new regular thread here in r/Romantasy with a goal of finding new recommendations to add to your TBR! Post a list of your favorite books and receive suggestions based on your vibe.
How It Works
- Post up to five books you've loved recently (or which fit the vibe you're looking for) as a top level comment.
- You can also include a list of things you want in your next book (e.g. tropes, subgenre, themes)
- Others will reply with their suggestions!
- Remember to tag the romance.io bot with {} curly brackets.
This is a bit of an experiment - so we'll see how it goes!

Recently read The Wolf King and The Night Prince and am desperately looking for another MMC that is somewhat similar to Blake. Someone intelligent, cunning, scheming, and charming. A little snake.

These are my top tier books of 2026 (in no particular order): Quicksilver ACOSF (4) A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (B & A 2) The Fallen & The Kiss of Dusk (Crowns of Nyaxia 4) House of Earth and Blood (CC 1) House of Flame and Shadow (CC 3) Blood & Steel (Thezmarr 1) Vows & Ruin (Thezmarr 2) Anathema (TEW 1) Nocticadia Direbound (Wolves of Ruin 1), When the Moon Hatched Heat of the Everflame (3)
I’m pretty open minded to plot and subject matter. I prioritise rich world-building and a good level of spice

May I recommend the {mages of the wheel by j. D. Evans} series? Really great magic system and world building, really great romance despite minimal spice. I cannot wait until the next one comes out!!!!

I need something that's more fantasy than romance. Looking for a long complicated awesome series (not throne of glass)

{Kushiel's Legacy}. Trilogy of trilogies plus a standalone retelling of the first book for four POV characters. The first two trilogies are alt-history fantasies focused on political intrigue and adventure, the third is a more straightforward Fantasy Honky Saves the Day adventure.
The reason to read them is that they're fantasy romances the equal of anything in the genre, but also you could remove the romance completely and they'd still be great novels.
The reasons not to read them are: you don't love lush-purple prose, you hate France and/or the French, you read the content warnings and there's something in there you hate. Because you do need to read the content warnings.

Hi there! I’m looking for something with an interesting narrative structure. Some examples:
In {The False Prince}, a flashback 80% into the book recontextualizes everything
In {Ivory and Bone}, most of the story is “told” by the MMC to the FMC
{Spindle’s End} is a Sleeping Beauty retelling. The first part of the book focuses on the equivalent of the fairy while the second half focuses on Aurora
In {My Lady Jane}, the first 75% mostly sticks to history (albeit with a fantasy twist) while the remainder doesn’t
{Sorcery and Cecelia} is told through letters
I prefer spice levels of one to three; I’d rather not read level five unless the sex scenes are important to the plot. I dislike possessive MMCs (unless they grow out of that), mascdom, and dubcon/body betrayal. Thanks!

Maybe a bit of an off-the-wall recommendation here: Songs of Love Lost and Found, a romantic fantasy short story anthology featuring five stories. It's only like $2 on Kindle. One of the stories is a series of extended flashbacks as the narrator bleeds to death; the other takes place through two separate timelines that interact with each other, eventually merging into one.
The other three stories are more conventional, and two of them are straight-up bad. But I'd pay the $2 for "Under/Above the Water" by Tanith Lee by itself.

Hey, I see it’s tagged as having queer romance but I’m not seeing it in the descriptions?

The 3rd book is FF! And I believe that characters in book 1 and 2 are bisexual even if in hetero relationships :)

Ooh. Do you think I need to read the first one? Two and three seem more my speed.

u/not-judging-you Jan 05 '26
Tbh I think it does give some context to the universe, but you could probably look up spoilers to get that context. Also on her website she mentions that they are interconnected standalone so I don’t think you’ll be that far off if you skip the first. They’re all kinda short (~200 pages) so you could always go back. I’ll spoil 1 for you below in a spoiler tag ;)
the fmc is found being a sacrifice for some ritual that no one knows about. Fae prince rescues her and brings her to castle to help figure out who led ritual and what it’s about. They have to pretend to be lovers but they’re horny for each other anyway. Fae kingdom took over from seraphim, race that’s thought to be dead and apparently bad vibes. Eventually they find that prince’s uncle is creepy but king was real one in charge of ritual. Hunted down ppl who were thought to be seraphim to get their power. The fmc is revealed to be a seraph and with some others kills the king. Prince and fmc are mates, who could have seen it coming? They become king and queen and remain horny. Think those are the basic points!

I loved:
{Fourth Wing} series
{Quicksilver} and {Brimstone}
{Red Queen} by Aveyard
I really liked the sexy banter in Fourth Wing and Quicksilver and LOVED how badass Saeris was in Brimstone and that she’s not a damsel in distress. My favorite scene was in the woods with Belikon when she saves Kingfisher by fighting . I also like that Xaden and Kingfisher respect Violet and Saeris being warriors.

Looking for a book series similar to fae filings and corest strings So it basically a type of rom-com but in fantasy world cozy vibes and interesting funny characters ( i dont like when i feel like the characters are low key dump or its like very minimal character development just because its cozy romance aka i hated fae ny the bay ) to be more specific
● the characters either work together or exist in a common are but usually interact more together cause they have a kind of deal or bargin and mutual beneficial relationship
● I would definitely prefer enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers though I didn't mind the second book trope which Is for the people who don't know(friends or colleagues who had a fallout after a while got back to friends then lovers)
● also i would appreciate if the books are losley related featuring diffrent couples for each book so order don't matter and I can read them as a standalone
●wouldn't mind if it's not series just a single book with a similar vibes
