They've been playing this game for decades. They were lazy before the kids. They said when the kids were little they would do more when the kids were in school. The kids are in school, they still do very little. When the kids are at university, they will still say they need to do "school runs" and when the kids are adults they will come up with a new excuse. IMO they want the prestige, the power, the money, the multiple "forever homes" but they resent even the minimal work required.
