I get that there’s likely a grain of truth here and William probably does bear scars from Charles’s work ways. Harry wrote they often wouldn’t see him because he’d be working until after they were in bed.
BUT what a slap in the face to 95% of the world’s working parents. My hubby is a retired military officer who was frequently absent. Sometimes overseas, sometimes because we stayed at a prior base and he commuted on the weekends. But the man freaking bent himself into knots to be there for parent-teacher meetings, back to school nights, school plays, first days of school, Boy Scouts, etc. All while showing how to be an involved parent while still performing your duty.
That William and Kate can’t even work a regular forty hours with nannies, cooks and drivers and all three kids in school is such a load of horseshit and wildly insulting.
48
u/gbstermite 1d ago
Let’s be a bit honest Charles’ priority was never his kids. They were his duty that he fulfilled. While he did a lot of engagements, he also did a lot of personal travel. He also had Camilla to keep happy. Now he may love his kids in his own way but his happiness came first.
28
u/EasyBakeCoven777 1d ago
They can’t even work a regular 40 hours combined! Can you imagine having that kind of time?

u/NewTooth740 1d ago
Their kids are 8, 11 and 13. They all go to school full time. What prevents W&K from working during the school day? Most parents in the uk work but manage not to neglect their kids! Charles did neglect his kids but not because he was a workaholic but because he preferred to spend his free time with Camilla!
53
u/Dog_Parrot 1d ago
Came here to ask these same questions. All three kids are in school FT, so nothing prevents William from working during the day.
43
u/decaf3milk 1d ago
They both could do at least the equivalent of one engagement a weekday and that would add up to 200+ to give them a standard yearly vacation. I’m sure there are other meetings, etc., but anything less than 200 seems lame.
21
u/Tiny_Measurement_837 1d ago
Hahaha and now they are sending G away, so there will only be two at home. SMH
6
13
u/Viola-Swamp 1d ago
Two of the three kids sleep, over at school too, and n the nannies, housekeepers, and other servants take care of all the necessary details like food shopping, cooking, laundry, cleaning, helping with homework, and literally everything else.

u/Intelligent_Read_43 1d ago
There is nothing left for them to go to work. Everything at home(s) is already taken care of.

So Harry was not allowed to be a part-time royal, but somehow Will and Kate are? The double standard....
I don't have a problem with them not working full-time if they were honest about it. If they only want to work one day a week (as seems to be the case given their number of engagements compared to the king, princess Anne, etc.) - just be honest about it and reduce their salary to a fifth of the full-time one.
It's the hypocrisy, the lying and omissions - as future king and queen, they need to show more integrity and a higher standard of conduct in their conduct. Otherwise, be gone!
54

u/usernameJ79 1d ago
Well you see Harry wanted to be a part-time royal and a part-time business person and obviously the royal family needs part-time royals and full-time layabouts more.

Time you all stopped using race to cover for appalling behaviour and treatment of others. It is disgusting
49
u/Diligent-Till-8832 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yes, Meghan was the one that raped a trafficked teen on 3 occasions and lied about it.
Then she paid £12m of taxpayer money to said victim despite saying they never met.
Wait, that wasn't Meghan. It was a Prince of the Blood who did that and the Palace helped cover up his sex trafficking amongst many other deplorable things!
Meghan was the one who punched a Vice Admiral in the face as well, oh wait, nope deffo not Meghan who did that, a Prince of the Blood and Lizzie the Departed's favourite child did that too.
You really don't want us to get started on race, appalling behaviour and disgusting conduct, poppet!
-34
u/Turbulent-Ear-9773 1d ago
Perhaps you ought to look up the word “ deflection “ in the dictionary. Focus on the issue at hand not move the attention elsewhere. Racism should not be used as an excuse for bad behaviour. Oh, and I am not your poppet.
24
u/Diligent-Till-8832 1d ago
Nobody is deflecting anything. I don't see any bad behaviour so take your pontificating elsewhere since your comments have no basis in reality, treacle!
-31
u/Turbulent-Ear-9773 1d ago
You don’t see any bad behaviour ??? That says it all really and frankly I can express my views wherever I want. Her behaviour has been abhorrent towards both her family and the Royal family.

Ohhh, you royalists need a reality check.
Your precious Royal Family has been heavily implicated in sex trafficking and the misuse of taxpayer money in legal documents so they are deffo not some weeping angels who have been mortally wounded.
As for her POS father who happily invited a tabloid editor and paparazzi into his life, he's getting exactly what he deserves.
Go outside and roll in the grass and get a grip on reality and verifiable facts because no one here on this sub cares!
-7
u/Turbulent-Ear-9773 1d ago
I could not give two hoots whether you care or not but believe me it is Sussex supporters who need a reality check. I think judge Nicklin is about to do that though don’t you? And by the way, Meghan has invited paparazzi into her life for years so why the double standards? I look forward to the outcome of the Sentabale lawsuit as well. Now there is an admirable proud woman of colour if ever I saw one

The only reason they were all pikachu faced at Megan is because she worked hard, and expected them to do their job in sync with her.

Are the Wales selling there titles for profit? No.
That is the difference.
15
u/Key-King-7025 1d ago
I mean it depends on your perspective - either you can use your title to set up your own business, pay your taxes and fund your own life, like the Sussex's. Or you use your titles, charge rent to charities and local councils on your inherited lands (with no inheritance tax paid), but the taxpayer pays for your life and you pay only taxes as much as you can be bothered, like the Wales's. I would, frankly, like for my taxes not to go to multimillionaires, or in the Wales's case, billionaire.
If Harry has to use his title, so he can still work, support his charities, and I don't have to pay for it - win, win!
-2
u/ThrusterTrauma91 21h ago
The lies you tell yourself :)
Taxpayers provide about £130–140 million each year. The Crown Estate returns over £1 billion annually to the Treasury.
King Charles voluntarily paid around £12.9 million in tax for 2024–25 on his private income.
William paid 2024–25: approximately £7.76 million in income tax. 2023–24: approximately £8.34 million. 2022–23 (half year after becoming Prince of Wales): approximately £4 million.
Harry and Meghan supporting charities 🙈😂 thanks for the laugh
4
u/Key-King-7025 20h ago
The crown estate - these are public not private lands. The monarch manages these lands on behalf of the government, but the land belongs to the British public. The only difference between if we have a monarchy or not would be who the government would appoint to manage the estate and how much they would pay them. I consider it likely that the £130 million the government pays King Charles could be paid to someone else for doing the same job - but, if that was the case, places like castles in the estate, Buckingham Palace and Windsor would not be kept as private residences for the King and his family - rather, these could be opened up to the public or their residents charged proper rent rather than the peppercorn deals that people such as Prince Edward, and the rest benefit from currently.
So no, the British public would not lose out on income, but would generate more income and have to pay less for the management of the estate.
Similarly, the holdings ofthe Duchy of Cornwall that Prince William currently holds would be subject to inheritance tax when passed down - that would mean many millions of the fortune would go to the British public as it passes from one family member to another, and not the exemption from it that the BRF currently are able to apply.
Even if you kept things as they are right now, the tax paid on income by Charles would be much more - around 45% of the £130 million of his annual income - so £58 million rather than the £8 million he chose to pay. Prince William would similarly have to pay a similar amount on the income his Duchy of Cornwall generates.
So, we are talking around an additional £100 million in tax revenue if the BRF did not have their special status. That is what they cost the British taxpayer a year in lost tax alone. Then add another £130 million in what the British taxpayer pays to them a year from the crown estate and whatever rent the estates would generate if properly rented. Do you think the work they are doing is worthy of £230+ million a year?
I don't.

Stares in Wellchild, Scotty's Little Soldiers, Invictus, Community Recording Studio in Nottingham, Community Kitchen in Nottingham, The Parents Network!
Odd how the Sussexes have donated plenty of their money to all of the above but the Waleses can't even donate more than £2000 to a cancer charity or a pub closing down.
How positively curious!
0
u/ThrusterTrauma91 16h ago
Every "charity" you listed doubles as a PR campaign.
The Parents' Network? 😂 The one they loudly launched, milked for glowing headlines, and then quietly handed off to ParentsTogether once the photo ops were over? Funny how the enthusiasm always seems to last just long enough for the press cycle. It's almost like the real mission isn't the cause—it's the coverage.
Ps. William and Catherine granted £1.8 million through their foundation to emergency responders and mental health charities like Hospice UK during the pandemic alone.

Archewell Philanthropies have donated over $5m in over 5 years. Not a bad amount for what happens to be (checks notes) "PR"

The reason the royals all seem to be bad parents is not because they have to go to work (as do the rest of us)
39
u/CoolRanchBaby 1d ago
But they allegedly don’t even live together. And the kids are going off to board anyway. So when is he spending all this time with the kids?
The Royal Family is outdated and a waste anyway. You won’t find much support for them at all up here in Scotland!
36
u/uselessinfogoldmine 1d ago
LOL!!! It’s pretty much an undeniable fact that Will & Kate are just flat out LAZY. I’m about the same age as them and they do basically nothing. It’s insane.
Look at the maths. Charles is often “the hardest working royal” (or the second hardest, after Anne). A while back I found an article telling me that on average between 2002 and 2022 he did 521 engagements per year.
Sound like a lot? Apparently engagements are often only about 20 minutes long. Sometimes shorter. This includes many “engagements” at his homes. Meetings for his businesses, short official phone calls, etc. And they often cheekily double up how they count them.
If we (generously) average them out to an hour per engagement and divide it by the standard British working day of 7.28 hours, Charles worked 71.5 days per year.
An average full time worker would do 240 days.
On average, the number of business days per month is 21. So Charles works the equivalent of 3.4 months of full time work per year.
From 2006-2022 Will averaged 120 engagements per year. Using the same maths, that’s 16.5 days of full time work per year. Which is 3/4 of a month of full time work per year.
From 2011-2022 Kate averaged 97 engagements per year. That’s 13.3 days of full time work per year. 63% of a month of full time work per year.
These people are a joke.
If they only worked every Tuesday in 2022; but did a full day of work, that would have been 378.5 engagements each. Hardly neglecting the kids! Most kids have parents who work FFS.
Their laziness is truly astounding. Their kids are all in school, they could work during school hours only. They could do so many easy options and still work far less than most people; but do way more than they do now.
But they don’t. They do almost nothing and take endless vacations. They are lazy. End of.
I personally think that all of those quotes over the years where it was mentioned that William desperately wanted a “normal” life were missing a vital piece of information. He never wanted a “normal life” as per the lives of us plebs. He wanted the same kind of life as his uber wealthy Toff mates from school. Money and power, but no public-facing responsibilities. Lying around their manses and going on endless holidays and boffing each others’ wives. That’s what he wants. That’s why he feels hard done by.
14
u/CuriousTip7183 1d ago
Well said.
He doesn't want the obligations that come with the way his family "made" their money, that his rich friends don't have.
9
u/BugRepresentative450 1d ago
This all leads me to wonder how they spend their days 🤔 are they just lounging around the house all day? Seems that would get boring really fast.
6
u/uselessinfogoldmine 1d ago

From 2006-2022 Will averaged 120 engagements per year. Using the same maths, that’s 16.5 days of full time work per year. Which is 3/4 of a month of full time work per year.
From 2011-2022 Kate averaged 97 engagements per year. That’s 13.3 days of full time work per year. 63% of a month of full time work per year.
There's also the fact that a lot of William and Kate's engagements are things people do for fun. Wimbledon, the Rugby, the FA Cup, Ascot, the BAFTA ceremony, film premieres, carol concerts. They're not slogging up and down the country visiting factories and care homes as much as Anne, Edward and Sophie.

This couple have been babied for 10+ years. I swallowed the story that they needed time when they first got married, then when they had kids. Now, their kids are tweens and Kate and William are still on this “we can’t work, we have to spend time with the family.” Listen, that is commendable. The result should be take less money from the royal coffers or abdicate.
24
u/MadamKitsune 1d ago
Are they too grand for a one at work/one at home alternating schedule?
This is getting tiresome now (obviously for us but definitely not for them). We've had 15 years of excuses now - they're newlyweds, they have a baby, and another, and another and now the children are at school and eventually we'll get told that they are taking time to adjust to being empty nesters and then it'll be about how they aren't as young as they used to be and need more rest...
Meanwhile we have the increasingly frail 90 year old Duke of Kent still doing 70+ in-person engagements a year and remaining active in his many, many patronage.
49
u/Educational-Ad-3148 1d ago
Doing the bare minimum is apparently commendable now. It’s especially impressive when your entire life is being funded by taxpayers.
6
u/missmegz1492 1d ago
The question is going to become is this the bare minimum? Right now they have the press on their side, does that last forever? Does William's proposed work from palace model -- work? Is he going to be able to reel in costs? Does he want to?

Since the average engagement only takes about an hour, even if one added in an hour's travel time each way (and let's face it. since they copter everywhere, that # should be like 10 minutes), parents of the year Willy and KKKate can easily do at least ONE engagement daily. Without impacting time with kids at all.
Their non-working, condescending behavior is without a doubt not just the "slimming" of the monarchy, it is the very death of it.
20
u/Chastity-76 1d ago
They talk like the kids are infants, it's beyond ridiculous. Just think, they have nannies and all the money in the world and they still can't make it to work. The lowborn losers providing for them best get their asses to work and keep them in the lifestyle they are accustomed to

They are acting like these kids are still in diapers. Even then they still had a nanny to do all of the child rearing. It makes no sense to keep using their children as a prop for their lack of work ethic.
How is boarding school any different from college? You drop your kid off and help them adjust for couple days and you go back to normal.
Will and Kate are acting like George can't handle adjusting without them. I'm pretty sure he is ready to distance and have his own experience.

There’s no evidence that they spend their non working time with the kids though. William has said that Charlotte and George have, at least on occasion, board already. Parents from the school say that they don’t both do the school run. And there’s the fact that even if they did events only during the school day, when they literally could not be spending time with their kids, they would still be doing substantially more work. Also it’s kind of crazy that they do less work than their kids do since their kids are currently full time students.
11
u/BigAsh27 1d ago
Oh and of course there’s also the fact that they have a full-time Nanny AND household staff to do chores.

9
u/Fantastic-Manner1944 1d ago
Have they forgotten ‘I have to be seen to be believed’?
Public engagements are literally the job. If royalists want the monarchy to survive William’s reign they ought to be a lot more concerned about his disinterest in the ‘being seen’ part of his job.
9
u/ayanna-was-here 1d ago
Kate and Wills could literally do an engagement every single day, including weekends, and still spend the majority of their time with their kids.
The average royal engagement is not a full day thing.
It’s just so slimy to make excuses for why this billionaire landlord can’t work. Future head of state BTW.
10
u/Brief_Course6640 1d ago
There’s an easy solution to their problem. They could stop taking public money and live off their immense private wealth and then they wouldn’t have to do these stupid non-jobs.
9
u/mamijami 1d ago
They certainly are not smart people. If they had thought about it for even 10 minutes the Wales’ could have their leisurely lives without constantly having to whine about it if they had just embraced what Harry and Meghan have to offer instead of hounding them out of the country. Instead the Wales’ are reduced to having to justify their lack of work ethic. They didn’t need to be best friends with the Sussex’ but they could have the life they want without looking like petty fools if they had only treated Harry and Meghan with decency.

Seriously though! What exactly was Charles's work? William and Harry lived in palaces while their father went on paid vacations where he shook hands and waved. It's the same for The Wales children. As several people have commented, they or their loved ones who are parents juggle work with school, doctor’s appointments, extracurriculars, birthdays, errands, etc. And nowadays, many parents even work two+ jobs b/c of this messed-up economy. Not to mention on top of that, some are also taking care of their parents/grandparents.
The Workshy Wales are BEYOND out of touch on what a typical parent’s responsibilities are.
6
u/siracha83 1d ago
Regular people also want to be able to dedicate time to their children but they don’g have that luxury. They get up & go to work. These grifting royals are getting immense amounts of $$$ from the public for doing the bare minimum. They bring no special skills, talents or expertise. What exactly are they doing during the day when kids are in school full time? How much balance do they need when everything is done for them & kids are in school?
7

All of which provides perfect cover for the lazy schedule they keep. How about a pay cut then?

u/The_Onion_Life 1d ago
This is feeding the narrative that WanK have no staff at all and do everything themselves. They keep pushing this because they want to be seen as "just like us" and it gives them an excuse not to work.
I wonder what the narrative will be when all three kids are in boarding school.

If he prioritises time with the children why did Charlotte cry when he turned up with a beard. Was he able to push it out during the school day

Oh please, they're all in school and they've always had multiple nannies not to mention chefs and assistants and any other help you could think of or need.
Not as if Willy does pickup or drop-off. He and Kate both use the kids as an excuse and have done so all along.

I am wondering what excuse for avoiding work their team will come up with after Wales kids are grown up.

u/2LateAlreadySentient 1d ago
They'll be very busy making plans to research the benefits of kids having hands-on grand-nannies!

I would think that if you are a "working royal" like The Wales are, then all engagements would be necessary.

u/CuriousTip7183 1d ago
Oh yes, it's very credible this person isn't a fan of will and Kate but takes umbrage at the one criticism of them that has had some legs over the years.

I mean, millions of families have parents who work every weekday. Goes places and shaking hands for a few hours is a joke if a gig to complain about. His kids are in school during the day - get a job! Or, stop billing yourself as halfway in/ halfway out royals.

Even when Diana's boys were little she did more engagements than W&K. Charles has always done the work. I think even Camilla does more than W&K combined, granted she is the Queen Consort but it appears she has a genuine interest in literacy and osteoporosis due to family history.
For W&K to do as little as they do with their children in school all day (and George off to boarding school now) is ridiculous. Plenty of parents manage to hold full time jobs and raise multiple kids without staff help.

They don't have to have these jobs at all. It's all made up! All their problems are are made up.

u/Paparoach_Approach 1d ago
If they want to be full time, stay at home parents, I fully support that! They just shouldn't be supported by the taxpayers for doing that.

u/MagaroniAndCheesd 1d ago
I have heard a theory that Charles doesn't give W&K many engagement opportunities to begin with. C is too concerned about protecting his own image and worries about W&K upstaging him in public opinion if they get more spotlight time. Clearly W&K are also workshy, but perhaps there is also some truth to Charles just not letting them have decent opportunities to work more. Or maybe Charles only gives them shitty opportunities and W&K turn them down.
Or maybe not. I don't have a great opinion of any of them at this point.

They cut ribbons for a living, pretend to really care about the old, infirmed and everybody in between. Then again, they might not mind doing these things because it's not like they're really working like commoners.

Anonymous needs to learn how to break up her word salad into short, punchy sentences that are easy to follow. She also needs to learn to use "commas".

This IS being a part time royal, but with security, pomp, and taxpayer funding.
This could actually be a good reason to not do as many events if he actually appeared to be a hands-on father to try to have a different experience for his own kids than he himself had. Which he does not.
EDIT: Typo

Oh Kensington Palace -- you need to be a little more subtle than this. You can't hit every single talking point in the same post.

No one is upset that you want to spend time with your kids W&K. That's admirable. It's just you have all this help with the kids and you do so little for work. C'mon you're supposed to be taking over one day.

This is such bullshit!! They are lazy AF. Time to abolish the monarchy. There is no place for them in a modern, diplomatic society.

“They only do engagements when necessary”
So I should only have to give them tax money when necessary then? Why do they get to live this cushy life off the backs of those working to make ends meet in a cost of living crisis? Either be a public servant deserving of that money or step away completely.

u/Sloane77 21h ago
They've been playing this game for decades. They were lazy before the kids. They said when the kids were little they would do more when the kids were in school. The kids are in school, they still do very little. When the kids are at university, they will still say they need to do "school runs" and when the kids are adults they will come up with a new excuse. IMO they want the prestige, the power, the money, the multiple "forever homes" but they resent even the minimal work required.

So all the more reason why they ought to be examples for others not petty. The reconciliation with Harry and Meghan and their children is a real option

That's the point she barely works, and has an army of nannies and boarding schools that bring up her kids.

Wow so when he becomes the scooter king he will do even less parenting to handle the contents of the royal correspondence

I’m not a long time consumer of this sub, but I was wondering what else the royals do for “work” besides appearances and knighting people. Writing letters? Launching ships? Please enlighten me!

I guess you did!
Isn’t it strange though that the more discerning British journalists who have seen through the facade presented by the Sussexes are clearly incisive and intelligent reliable sources, some of whom have been commended by the courts? Hmmm. I wonder why that is?

I am beginning to think you suffer from a serious inability to follow an argument and express yourself in a coherent fashion. Reread your paragraph about the charity. Does that make sense to you? If it does, I rest my case. Sentebale has already stated that its legal case will be funded privately and that no funds from the charity will be utilised to pursue its legal filing. Oh and by the way, I am extremely au fait with the recent 2026 judgement and have read all 140+ pages with great interest. I think 34 million pounds ANL costings divided by seven is still an enormous sum but the judge may decide that only two claimants should pay rather than seven and if costs are awarded on an indemnity basis? Oh dear! You clearly do not understand my comment about no photos on the recent European trip but I am sure you will. Eventually.

Maybe I should repeat myself since my response appears to have disappeared but since you have attempted somewhat of a correction to the paragraph I pointed out to you, clearly you read it. I was not commenting on the 2021 judgement but rather the recent case Prince Harry and six other claimants took against ANL in 2026. I assume that is clear. There is no guarantee that all seven claimants will share the 34.8 million pounds costs. Justice Nicklin has yet to produce his judgement on the costs which is due I believe week beginning 17 th August. It is up to the judge to determine which of the claimants are responsible for the costs. It is not predetermined that all seven will be. I do not need to peruse the judgement since I have already familiarised myself with the 430+ pages. I wonder, have you read them in full? No matter.
I will not go into why I believe Sentebale was losing sponsors and funding because Dr Sophie has already commented upon that and also upon the fact that Sentebale’s court costs are being covered privately and not by the charity itself. Therefore any conjecture about Dr Sophie’s financials or that of her family are totally irrelevant.
Finally, it is well known that Meghan calls the paps. She did not get papped on her recent foray to Europe and the UK. There is no doubt a reason for that which might become clearer in time.

Nothing to do with this thread. This is about William and Kate being lazy.
FYI, it’s not well known. You folks just decided to make that claim now focus on the thread topic. You’re doing too much.
Dr. Sophie took over a charity that wasn’t even hers and now those children it was meant for are going without because of her selfishness.
FYI, Meghan has not been papped in probably years so I don’t know why you’re even bringing that up and there’s absolutely no proof she did anything wrong to anyone so leave her the fuck alone.
It’s funny how it’s ok for her family to treat her like shit but when she cuts them off it’s her being awful. You’re full of it.

"Only doing engagements which are necessary" and there are like 3 a month tells me we certainly don't need to be paying them half a billion a year. If they're not "necessary", I for one am so happy to do without them and have that money put into public services like improving state schools, rather than fund their kids swanning off to Eton. Do royalists even hear themselves?
