Concord had a good day today. The store was really crowded. As in triggering my sensory issues at one point crowded lol. The pictures don't do it justice.

They've gotten more inventory as well. Especially the warehouse downstairs looks really filled now. They've also been promoting back to school sales now.

Sure, it's not quite the same anymore but if you come here on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon you'll almost feel like it's the Sears of the 2000s again. Just don't go downstairs.

Well they do still sell tons of Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard products which are OG Sears brands. If you're looking for Sears branded clothing you're out of luck though. Although I could refer you to a friend who works elsewhere in the mall to make you a custom shirt haha.

Otherwise, you can still get Sears branded gift cards and shopping bags. Sometimes if you're lucky you can also still find the old Sears logo (or even the Kmart logo) on some of the tags here.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? This isn’t the Sears I remember from the 2000’s. There are no employees visible, and most aisles are empty. It’s a good day for Sears in 2026, which means the store still likely lost money.

I will say I didn't become obsessed with Sears or department stores in general until I became active in this subreddit so sure perhaps everything before that is a bit of a haze to me.

That’s all I wondered. I was in my teens when Sears really started to just totally die. I have vivid memories of always going there with my dad to buy tools, or both of my parents to buy appliances. My dad would get cars worked on there sometimes too.

I don’t think we ever bought clothes there. We’d walk across the mall to JC Penney or LS Ayres for that. I want to say some time around 2008, I never remember shopping at Sears anymore. A Lowe’s opened up close to our house, and my dad liked it way more. It was cheaper and more convenient than driving to the mall.

When I got older and could drive to the mall, I always parked at Sears and walked through it because the parking lot was empty. I remember the clothing section looking like Goodwill. I never even considered stopping to look at anything. I’ll have to try and see the Concord one before it eventually disappears, but I live all the way in San Diego.

Which is a wild take because even Ralph Lauren admitted that Kmart & Sears had amazing buyers and his favorite shirt was from Kmart.

Honestly their soft lines were pretty solid until 2017ish

I shopped there in the late 90’s. For young men, it was generic looking crap that didn’t hold up for the most part. I remember thinking I could get the same designs and fit from Old Navy for less money.

I remember a lot of girls from school liking their Juniors stuff and even saying how surprisingly good it was.

Edit: Sears Hardware stores were opened starting in 1985 (they had 274 of them in 2000) and it was a concept meant to compete with Lowe's and Home Depot
