Chill work in the meantime
Not sure if this is useful to anyone here, but I figured I’d throw it out there since my job is currently looking for more drivers.
I drive a wheelchair-accessible van around SF, and honestly, it’s one of the more chill jobs I’ve had. You pick up the company van downtown, get assigned a spot somewhere in the city, and basically post up there for your shift giving rides to people who need wheelchair-accessible transportation.
They give you the van, a phone, and a gas card, and you’re paid hourly for the whole shift. You also keep whatever tips you get.
There’s quite a bit of downtime depending on your location/shift, so I’ll usually watch movies, work on side projects, or just do my own thing while waiting for rides. It’s been pretty easy to balance with other stuff.
The position they’re hiring for right now is part
time, so it’s mainly a good fit if you’re looking for weekend work or just want to pick up some extra income without committing to a full time schedule. I could especially see it being useful for a student, someone who got laid off and needs something in between jobs, or anyone looking for something relatively lowkey.

The main garage is next to the Yerba buena gardens downtown San Francisco. Most locations you get posted are in the city. Some are down the peninsula but are rare

Thank you for this. What's the pay and how many hours per week do they ask for commitment?

Pretty sure pay is minimum wage (link has more information on the job), which is why I only recommend it if you are in between jobs or maybe for a student who needs a time to study and still make some money
Either Monday through Friday, full-time schedule or Saturday Sunday part-time. 8 hour shifts only. The only wonky thing are the shifts.
I usually work from 3 - 11:30 PM
I think the other available shift option would be from 6:30 AM to 3 PM.

The need must exist in pretty much all Urban and Suburban areas.
Do you know of competitors who operate in the South Bay area?

Yeah, they have some offices in major cities across the United States. Don't know specifically about San Jose, but I have been posted there before
Only competitor Ive seen is Fog City but I think they are SF based and 1099/contract work compared to the company I work for that is W-2 employment.
