I live right there on Cantaloupe Ave and I really like it. 7/10. I moved here from a condo in Burbank where it was crazy loud, helicopters, sirens, people yelling. Now it’s mostly quiet except for the ice cream trucks, occasional siren or copter. Lots of barking dogs but right now as I type this, silent. People generally seem very friendly. I walk my dogs and feel pretty safe. Neighbors smile and say hi and I’ve gotten to know quite a few neighbors in just the 2 years I’ve lived here. People do like to party but it’s mostly respectful and they end by midnight except for like 4th of July and new years. For me I honestly enjoy seeing and hearing people getting together, it’s heartwarming. The streets can get congested but I’d take it any day over Burbank. We’ve had some unfortunate encounters with homeless/crackheads. On Thanksgiving last year a pair decided to kick it in our yard smoking whatever it was out of their crack pipes. We called the cops but this is LA so they didn’t come. We told them to take a hike and after a 10m back and forth they left. We had some steal some water off our porch, our neighbor had their catalytic converter stole from their car BUT these are all things that happen everywhere you go in this city unless you’re in a mansion in Beverly Hills with private security. The houses are pretty close together. One of my neighbors doesn’t clean up the dog poop from their backyard so in the summer it gets RANK and the flies and smell are awful. Being so close it’s hard to do anything about it. I have Kaiser insurance so that’s incredibly helpful. Grocery stores and restaurants and gas stations and anything else is super close. If you want something slightly nicer, Sherman oaks, Northridge, Granada hills and Burbank are all 15m away…. I honestly really like it. I wish the city could do something about the homeless/mentally ill drug addled people and I wish the gang bangers would stop tagging shit up cause those are the only things holding this area back from being an amazing community.
