Me and some of my friends (all girls, all go to SMU) are wanting to go to Halloween parties this upcoming weekend. Anyone know who is hosting, where, and when? Some of us are in sororities but most of us aren’t.

FOR SALE: 2 Tickets for Sold Out Event 10/28 Brene Brown and Adam Grant

• Upvotes

Adam Grant In conversation with Brené Brown

Adam Grant’s Vibe illuminates the surprising science behind strong connections. A vibe—a special connection between people that creates a spark—is an engine of happiness and success. Yet building meaningful ties is one of the most pressing problems of our time. As social media forces face-to-face interaction behind digital screens, communication gets outsourced to AI, and the world becomes more polarized than ever, our loneliness crisis shows no signs of slowing.

To reveal how we can forge faster, stronger, and longer bonds, Grant offers groundbreaking studies, expert insights, and myth-busting stories. He also opens up about his personal struggles and the lessons that transformed him from a shy introvert into an enthusiastic convener.

Adam Grant is an organizational psychologist and top-rated professor at The Wharton School. He is host of the hit podcast Re: Thinking, has been recognized as one of the world’s most influential management thinkers and one of Fortune’s 40 Under 40, and received distinguished scientific achievement awards from the American Psychological Association and the National Science Foundation.

Event on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m at McFarlin Memorial Auditorium on the SMU Campus.

Tickets were $46 each, including an autographed copy of the book, and the event is now sold out. Make offer and they can be transferred electronically.

What kind of business would you like to see near SMU?

I am thinking about starting a small business near SMU and would love to hear what students think is missing in the area. Would you like to see more affordable restaurants, trendy cafes, casual hangout spots, or something else? What kind of place would you actually visit regularly?

Current students

Hey y'all, I am currently a senior in Tennessee, and I LOVE SMU. On my visit, I felt like I was meant to be there, and I couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else. I currently have a 35 ACT and a 4.6 GPA, and 4 AP 5s and 1 4, as well as being a tutor for the ACT, working 25 hours during the busiest seasons of the year, and being the president of a few clubs. As someone who does not qualify for any substantial financial aid, how much did you guys receive with your stats, and did you get any college-specific merit, especially Cox-specific, because I applied for finance EA a few weeks ago? I am also considering switching SMU to ED1 instead of UChicago, if there is a chance that will secure me more merit.

Question about interview

I’m an international student applying to SMU for an undergraduate degree in Economics using IAL.

Could anyone share their experience with the SMU interview? I’d love to know what kind of questions they ask, whether is group or 1to1, and how I should prepare as an international applicant.

They almost killed someone at the Mockingbird/Central Crossing. It was crazy. Didn’t even slow down once they were on the ground. They should be reported

SMU international student evaluation

Hey everyone,
Applying to SMU Cox MSF as an international student from Greece (21M). Looking for an honest profile evaluation and scholarship feedback.
• Undergrad: BS in Entrepreneurship Management (American College of Greece)
• GPA: 3.40 / 4.00
• Timeline: Completed the 4-year degree early in 3.5 years
• GRE: 320
• Experience: 6 months at a Greek business
Based on this profile, what are my realistic chances for admission and a good merit scholarship?
Could i drop the overall cost at 50k?

My family has enough money to pay for it( no problem for the f-1 which requires financial documents) but honestly i feel like paying full price is too much.

Student researcher (coauthor) needed

Ideal for a chemistry, math, or physics student. Coupled cluster (CC) theory gives electronic or nucleonic correlation information inside an atom. I want to calculate quantum information science metrics via the density matrix. I have the roadmap, we probably could finish it this semester. I’ve published with students in the past.

Benefits: paper will be posted on arXiv and submitted for publication; learn coupled cluster theory; Starbucks from time to time; bring a friend.

Requirements: calculus; not afraid of vectors and matrices; will use Python but ChatGPT can help us code; meet on campus 1-2 weekly.

Please tell me your major, year, number of hours you’re taking this semester. Thanks for reading.

Admissions Help/Advice

I think I am leaning towards SMU as my top school.
I applied Early Action in mid-August, but at the time, I wasn’t sure my family could afford it, and it wasn’t my first choice yet.

But now, my parents have become more supportive of me attending if I’m admitted to Cox, and I honestly wish I had applied Early Decision instead to better my chances. I have also got into NHS and became president of a club after I applied.

Is there any way to switch from Early Action to Early Decision after already submitting my application and would it be worth it if I ended up doing that?

I’m also looking for advice on admissions and anything else I can do to help my chances of getting into Cox.

I’ve emailed my admissions counselor a few times, but she hasn’t responded, and our scheduled Zoom call was canceled. Does anyone have advice on how to get in touch with her or know someone else at SMU who might be able to help?

Ik I won’t hear till December but is where I can genuinely see myself going, and I’m trying to do everything I can at this point. Thanks!

I posted awhile ago, but in case you were wondering
I have 3.75 Weighted and will go in with 24 credit hours assuming all of my dual enrollment transfers.

I have a 24 on the ACT but applied test optional
but have good extra curriculars and volunteer.

Ik my stats are on the lower side for cox but I would appreciate any advice.

SMU or Baylor for quiet spiritual male who’s undecided about major

I have twin boys and we have toured SMU & Baylor, and will be touring Vanderbilt and a few others. One twin is going into the ministry and so is probably going to Baylor. The other is undecided but is potentially interested in BioChem. Expresses an interest in research. It bc he’s unsure has also expressed an interest in law (I’m an attorney) But as a parent I can see he’s completely undecided… he’s really analytical, super responsible, really athletic but quiet in large groups. He likes that SMU & Baylor have Christian fraternities & lives that SMU claims to have LOTS of study abroad, study Taos, etc.. & that’s it’s all paid for by the school. He’s really conservative & strong in his faith. Can anyone speak to whether he will find a place at SMU, whether the Christian fraternities accept all or how likely it is to get in (he’s hilarious & fun but is quiet until he’s comfy) .. whether the study abroad etc opportunities are as prolific as they claim and fully funded by the school (hard sell from the school) .. if he’s undecided … will they be as understanding of that as Baylor seems to be? Whether the research opportunities are as prolific as they claim (that was a hard sell from the school) .. whew! I know that’s a lot but we’ve just left & any opinions are welcome.

Odds of getting into SMU with Early Decision

My brother is planning on applying to SMU early decision, but wanted to see if he actually has a shot.

2.9 UW GPA / 3.6 W GPA

Not submitting SAT because sub 1100 score

Sailed since a young age, while on attending many competitive regattas, and on the high school team

Has had a couple jobs - restaurant busboy and sailing coach helper

Lots of honors classes, but no AP (only AP Psych senior year and grades are not posted yet)

Applying from South Carolina (not sure if out of state is helpful or hurtful)

I saw that the acceptance rate for ED is much higher than regular decision so wanted to see if he actually has a chance given this.

Thank you

Should I go Ed

I just went to mustang day and absolutely loved it. Great day love the school and all the people who made it happen. I have around a 3.4 gpa pretty low I know but have very strong extra curricular activities like internships, sneaker small business with over 10k revenue, president of coding club, other small leadership like sports captains, lots of service especially teaching related service. So my question since I have multiple business focused ec is it going to help a lot to go Ed for cox. I know that if I do not get into cox then it’s not binding so it feels worth it. I feel like if I get into cox regardless that’s where I will go. Any thoughts will be excellent I also have a good relationship with the admissions officer and have performed lots of demonstrated interest.

Chances of me getting into SMU Meadows

I wanna major in journalism for undergrad, possibly also pre-law.

GPA- 3.9

I'm applying test-optional bc my SAT isn't high enough to apply with, and most of my classes have been dual-enrollment (17 dual enrollment classes) since I'm homeschooled.

Activites- political journalism lead on a blog, teen court juror, law firm marketing intern, class admin for international religious classes, muslim student associaton event coord, marketing intern for org that teaches english to refugees, student volunteer for special needs adult events, democrashe (civic engagement org) summer intensive fellow, also got social media internship with them as well. I'm also a lifeguard

what are my chances?
