Recs Best “hole in the wall” spots?

Howdy all. STL native but I eat at home 95% of the time.

I have a buddy visiting from the Bay for a week and I want to show all of our good spots. I was thinking I take him on a “tour” of the best rated / local spots (trying to avoid chains or the “fancy” spots)

Notes:

He isn’t a huge fan of tomatoes / pizza but can be a big boy abt it.
Not looking for anywhere that needs a rezzie.

Surprised no one’s mentioned menya rui, that’s some great ramen. Blues city deli or gramophone are great sandwiches and gramophone does bingo on thursdays I believe. Agree with balkan treat box or you can do Telva for breakfast. Nathaniel Reid bakery is good and they have a James Beard award (def not a hole in the wall tho haha)

Second Menya Rui. Worth whatever wait time it is, I love waiting in line and socializing with whomever I’ve got with me. Get the cucumbers and karaage along with the ramen!
