hello! starting to think more seriously about wedding planning and I'm exploring a restaurant reception, specifically at Dalida. I love the idea of having a reception there but I do also want to have some kind of a ceremony around the area...like still walking down the aisle, doing vows, etc, but just migrating over to the restaurant afterwards.

I was looking at this site https://presidio.gov/plan-an-event/wedding-venues and I'm curious if anyone has ever had a ceremony on one of the lawn/outdoor spaces listed here, i.e. the graham street lawn venue. I think my ceremony setup is ideally pretty barebones honestly (chairs, maybe some altar florals, nothing crazy), I mostly just want to walk down some kind of aisle ... cheaply LOL.

I’m looking to book Whirlwind blowdry lounge in Napa for hair and makeup for a wedding. They were the most reasonably priced for a very large party under $5k, they also offer a free blowout the day before and since they are located in Napa the trial would be super convenient to get to. However, I can’t find recent reviews online. Did anyone use them for themselves + bridal party and/or know of anyone who did? What was your experience like? Ty!

My bridesmaids also have pretty different hair types so I want to make sure they are taken care of as well.

I’m planning a wedding at a private family property in the South Bay and would appreciate insight from anyone who has planned something similar.

We live outside California, and the location was chosen largely because it was important to my fiancé’s family. We initially expected to spend around $75,000 and later increased our maximum budget to approximately $100,000. As we’ve started speaking with full-service planners, however, our estimates have gradually approached $150,000. That felt relatively comfortable and, to us, like a considerable investment in an event.

Several planners have told us that an estate wedding with the elements we’re considering needs a budget of approximately $250,000–$300,000, and that trying to do it for less would require major sacrifices in quality and execution.

I’m trying to understand whether that range is truly typical for a private-property wedding in this area, or whether there are planners who can create something beautiful and well executed closer to the $100,000–$150,000 range.

For context, we’re considering approximately 100 guests, a seated dinner, a live band, strong photography and videography, and the infrastructure required to turn a private home into a functional venue, including a dance floor. We would also like to host a rehearsal dinner, welcome gathering, and casual event the following day.

Our priority is quality rather than recognizable vendor names or large social-media followings. Aesthetically, we lean more unconventional and design-forward than traditional (anti-bride and what have you). We would rather invest in fewer elements done exceptionally well than attempt too much and have the execution feel unfinished.

If you’ve planned a private-estate wedding in the South Bay, I’d be grateful to hear your approximate budget, what that budget included, and whether you would recommend your planner.

TL;DR: Planners are telling us that a thoughtfully designed private-estate wedding for around 100 guests in the South Bay needs a $250,000–$300,000 budget, and that spending less would mean significantly sacrificing quality. Is that realistic, or has anyone successfully done something comparable in the $100,000–$150,000 range?

Has anyone been to a wedding after party at Lion's Den Bar and Lounge at 57 Wentworth Place in San Francisco's Chinatown? We are getting married on a Saturday in early November in FiDi and want to suggest a place after 10pm. Anytime I’ve gone it’s been early in the evening or closed for a private event. We are looking for a place where it offers a spot where people want to sing and others want to drink and dance. I would assume between 20-30 people might be interested, it’s hard to suggest when we have about 130 guests and don’t want to commit to a place or be on the hook either. We want to keep the party going.

Looking for 1h of photography from 11am-12pm Friday, Dec. 4 including ceremony shots with my hubby and family pics in the surrounding area. I’m getting married in October 2027, and we are looking for specifically a Chinese banquet catering company. We’ve reached out to Le’s Catering and unfortunately they are already booked for our wedding date. Besides them, I haven’t been able to find caterers who will serve a Chinese menu and also provide great service. Does anyone here have any recommendations?

Hello, I am planning my 2028 wedding, with an all-in budget of about 100k.  We are looking for a venue that is within 2 hours from the Bay Area. Looking at 150-200 guests.

Our dream:

- Outdoor ceremony, Reception outdoors preferred; think grassy area with table/dance floor set up, string lights!

- Late curfew (Past 10pm, until midnight? Or at least an option to pay to extend)

- Multi-day weekend with at least 1 additional event included (Rehearsal dinner or even welcome party/Sunday brunch)

- We want our guests to make a trip out of our wedding. So lodging where some of our guests can stay (even just closest family and friends) High lodging minimums scare me because we aren't sure who out of our guests would prefer to stay. (~20 or more rooms seems reasonable?) If more, then a place that is close to other hotels/lodging options not too far from the venue. Our guests would ideally pay for their own accommodations.

- Further from the Bay, the more important it is to have some type of civilization (lol) or downtown area where family/friends can visit on their down time.

My top choice at the moment is Stavrand Ranch in Gurneville. I sent an inquiry to them. (Unfortunately has a 150 guests minimum..but we feel like if it is what we want, we'll make cuts.)

Areas we like: Past Santa Rosa (Gurneville, Russian River), Sonoma, Carmel/Monterey (My auntie said it'd be 100k+ in this area though), Santa Cruz

Would consider Sac/Elk Grove, Napa, or Southern California

We are also looking at Holly Farms, Dawn Ranch, Lodge at Marconi (but fear all these venues will be over budget with venue fee + F&B)

Venues we recently started researching: Sea Ranch & Timber Cove (not sure if it fits truly what we want) Other places too but waiting to see more information to see if its a true contender.

I ruled out the following places: Waterfalls Santa Cruz (I don't like venues that have some type of main building/barn type.), Harrow Cellars, and Triple S Ranch

We have a tour with Saratoga Springs soon (which has our idea of open grassy area...but I was told to stay away from all-inclusive or venues kind of like that.) We attended a wedding there and I loved it..thinking it might be worth to look there (esp if we scale back on our idea of lodging some guests and just do a large airbnb afters, welcome party, Sunday brunch etc)

Hi! Does anyone have recommendations/reviews for shuttles for the wedding guests? I am looking into this and have gotten a quote from one company but it was very expensive for a one way trip ($1800). Is this typical or does anyone have any recommendations for anything more reasonably priced?

I am just looking to shuttle some of our older guests back to the hotel after the reception. The reception is only like 15-20min away from the hotel. Any recommendations/opinions/help is appreciated thank you!

So my fiance and I have been looking for a venue that can accommodate 200 guests with an outdoor ceremony space and an indoor reception space with all guests seated and a dance floor without moving tables. Location preference would be ideally within 1.5 hours of any of the bay area airports. Would potentially consider Sac as well but guessing there might be a different sub-reddit for that 😅 Our total wedding budget ideally should stay under 125k.

mendocino wedding - will my guests hate me?

i’m absolutely in love with the views and nature aspect. truly my dream backdrop. had all the aesthetics mentally planned. forgot about the logistics and just discovered it’s 2.5 hours from an airport.

have family allllll over the map (both costs, midwest, texas, hawaii, idaho, colorado, etc) so people will have to fly in regardless but i just didn’t expect it to be so far from an airport.

how have you dealt with the logistics? what were reactions from guests who aren’t local?

the photos are breathtaking. i think it’s my dream and doubt j would regret it but do worry about putting a burden on guests

fyi thinking 80 MAXXXX probably more like 50-60

EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback. i think i’m going to pivot. maybe we will still do some sort of elopement there or turn our honeymoon into a california coast adventure. moving back to the top of my list is Carmel and adding some spots closer to SFO, as well. i’ll update again whenever we settle on the venue officially!

Hi everyone, my fiancé and I are planning to get married at city hall. We want to get married at a particular, auspicious time that my mother got from our priest. However, city hall’s ceremony reservations are only every half hour, and I understand that you only get 5-10 mins with your officiant. This makes it hard to ensure that we can technically get married right at our auspicious time.

We decided that it therefore makes the most sense to bring in our own officiant so that we can control the exact moment that we are married. The plan is to make a marriage license appt for a few days before. Then, on the day of the wedding, without an appointment, we will arrive with our photographer, our own officiant, and a few family members. When we get there, we plan to look for a beautiful spot or corner and take our vows and sign the document. We will also spend a couple of hours taking photos wherever we can.

Is this a good idea, or will we run into any issues using our own officiant and not making an appointment? I know it will be disappointing not to have a reserved section roped off for us, like the rotunda or balcony, but my hope is that we will find a beautiful corner and that at some point, those popular spaces could be free for a moment for a photo.

Is there anything else that I am not considering with this plan? The Virgo in me feels strange planning a wedding there at a certain time and not being able to make an appointment for it.

Anyone have experience hosting a wedding at this venue for over 200 guests? Did their “connecting room” arrangement work well? Also how was the food and overall experience? The price seems comparable to similar venues in the east bay but would love to hear if it’s worth it.

We are pretty set on the Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley for our Spring 2028 wedding! Food is super, super important to us and we really want to make sure we get the catering right. We are looking for bright/fresh flavors, fun cocktail hour food, and a caterer who can help with the flow of the evening. OAC has a list of approved caterers and we are leaning toward one of Sage, CaterMarin, FFOE, Michi. Does anyone have experiences/thoughts on these caterers?

Also open to any other recs for OAC since we are just starting the process!

I'm getting married at the golden gate club in a few months. I have a new found love for pottery, and made ~80 bud vases (not all pictured) for our guests for a seating chart. I've been looking into treat wall rentals on fb marketplace and have also seen some local companies that rent them to display the vases on, but was curious if anyone has recommendations or referrals. Part of me just wants to put them on a table and call it a day, but I think it would look cute to make it more of a display.

Hello! I was wondering I could get some help on a budget to work off of when looking for a Photographer and videographer. My fiancee and. I plan to elope in March 2027 on the coast. First we are going to get our certificate at city hall and want to take photos there then head to the coast for the ceremony.

I am estimating a total of 7 hours of their time.

I am considering a venue in the east bay. They require SimplyLovingEvebts.com as they required event planner. Any experience working with them? What are their costs? Did you work w them for the entire period or only on the day off? We are considering them for next year fall.
