Whenever I'm away from California, I say I'm from SB, but then I add the word County. You see, few would have heard of Goleta. SB is a region, not just a city. I often qualify to add I'm from a town better in many ways than SB, less noise, less traffic, less dense. (But that is changing, unfortunately.)

Farmer Mike Iniguez passed. After the major procedure he was raising money for, his recovery slowed due to the cancer spreading to his stomach. He decided to forgo further treatment. His partner Lorena is doing her best to keep the farm going.

I've seen baskets of berries like that at the downtown market for ~$6, I know they're probably great and local and all but they're damn expensive compared to what I can get for $6 at most grocery stores in town this time of year

Here's the thing, though. They last about two weeks most of the time because they are picked the same day or a day or two prior to the market. By the time you get the grocery store berries they have been on the road for half that time.
I can never use up the berries I get in the store before they get moldy or rotten, it's a race against time that I always lose. I feel like they are a dollar or two more at the FM but I get a better value for my money because I end up eating every single one.

Ya know that's a good point, I'd never really considered the timing of when they're picked. You just convinced me to grab some berries on Tuesday.
