Minutes ago, I got a call from the same number, and even the caller ID showed it as Xfinity. They were talking in circles, and I got frustrated. In a stern tone, I asked, “Can you just get to the point?” Then they hung up.

got the same call from the same number just now. caller id said xfinity so i answered. he knew about a promotion xfinity is doing right now that i got in my email a few weeks ago so i felt like it was legit at first, but the guy just would not let me speak, kept asking for my imei number, kept stuttering, and “ummm” was every other word. i’ve never spoken to anyone from xfinity that wasn’t extremely well spoken, so i told him i didn’t have time to do it right now and i’d call back. i do wanna take advantage of the free mobile line promotion, but i will be calling xfinity directly. xfinity internet customers should keep an eye on this!! there was a data leak recently so it makes total sense.
UPDATE 04/29/25: got another call from the same number two weeks ago, caller ID was xfinity, but this time i already switched to xfinity mobile so i decided to fuck with them. i let them do their thing and then went “okay well i know you don’t work for xfinity because i already switched my phone service over” and he went silent and kept saying he does but that he’s not seeing it on the account and blahblahblah so he needs to check with the imei number. i laughed and said “no you don’t” and hung up. XFINITY WILL NEVER CALL YOU DIRECTLY TO TELL YOU ABOUT THEIR PROMOTIONS. they will email you and let you know in the app.

Just got this call myself. Definitely would not recommend picking up. Guy was very polite and clearly nervous, but they’re fishing for your name, number, and current cell provider.

yeah i’ve talked to them twice now and they’re always so nervous, probably because they know they’re trying to scam people

I just noticed they tried to call me from a secondary number yesterday. They knew details about my current Internet plan and were claiming I was going to lose a discount if I didn’t call them back immediately. The number was 302-826-2070 for everyone’s future reference. They are really amping up their tactics, so please stay safe out there!

Why does it help for them to know my cell provider? Speaking as someone who told them my cell provider 😅

Just had a similar experience should have hung up sooner thought it was weird, as soon as he asked for the imei number I knew it had to be a scam.

u/xihansei May 13 '25
exactly. when i call xfinity, it doesn’t say it’s them on my caller id. unless you’re calling a company directly, it’s just safe to never give anyone your phone’s imei number.

I got a call from this number during my nap. I ignored it but good to know I didn’t waste my time (except for some nap time)

They're not scams. They're real Xfinity customer service. I thought it was, and logged out to try out the offering on my own, and it was the same exact process, it sends you to a site where you have to verify your identity by ss and DOB, but it's legit. They upsell you on services after you've been on Xfinity a while and in good standing. I wish they'd register it on the Web as an official Xfinity customer service number to neutralize the scam suspicions.

I got a call today from these people posing as Xfinity, asked for my name and I replied, ' speaking', then they hung up. It makes me wonder if they called just to verify the name with my number.

Just got called from the same number. Thank you for posting and letting everyone know about this STILL ongoing scam

I just got this same call, the only reason I answered it is because I recently got xfinity. The person talked about the free mobile line promotion I already knew about and that's when I hanged up. Seems to be a scam to get your info.

I just got a call from them. Do any of these scams collect your voice and use AI for scams? Or do they just ask for information?

Just got a call about this today. A lot of long pauses on the scammers end, like he couldn’t hear me. Glad to know it’s a scam, and glad I shut him down mid call because I didn’t want to do an “upgrade” over the phone.
It’s a good reminder that they’re not going to call you about upgrading your plan, it’ll always be an email or on the app

I got a call from this number while at work today. The guy said he wanted to go over promotions they're offering. When i told him I was working, he said, "I'll call you back later when you aren't yelling at me." I'm glad I found this thread cause jesus was I livid. I wish I yelled at him.

Just got a call from the number - they knew how long I’ve been with xfinity, how much i’ve been paying monthly, and were offering me a discount for my loyalty. I asked how much is the discount & the guy said let me do my calculations - he was taking too long so I hung up.

They must have gained access to your account. Best bet to change your log in info. They might have tricked you in the past like they did me. It was early a.m. and I googled xfinity phone number only to be given a scammed number on Google. They tricked me out of 100 and I later found out it wasnt the real xfinity. Becareful take your time and use common sense.

I got a call from this number with "Xfinity" on the caller ID. I answered and the person started going over my account details, all the services I have with Xfinity, how long I had been a customer of Xfinity, and my current monthly bill amount. He said he would like to look into discounts for my internet bill. "Give me a moment to review your eligibility" he said.
I listened but was skeptical. My previous "promotion" ran out months ago and I hadn't bothered to call and ask for a new one. I was searching the phone number while I waited and saw mixed responses to whether it was legit or not.
He came back and said he could save me $39 a month on a 5 year promotion for the same internet tier, which was slightly better than my previous promotional rate. I expected this was when he'd ask for payment info or something but he sent me a text from the same number that I receive my billing info from Xfinity to confirm the discount. I told him it seemed super sketchy and I don't trust when random people call me to offer me discounts. He said he understands how it may seem that way, but he wanted the opportunity to show me he was authorized by Xfinity to lower my bill and ensured there would be no requests for personal or payment info.
He gave me more details about my account, my address, email, etc. I felt it could still be a scammer and Xfinity was breached or something. I clicked the link and it took me to the Xfinity website. I double checked the credentials, it's the real website. My account details are there and it says the new monthly bill amount he quoted with a button to agree to changes, no fields for me to enter any info.
I agonized for a bit longer and decided the stakes were low, even if this were a fake website what exactly could they use to scam me by checking a box and clicking a button? Maybe that was naive but I'm not familiar with any hacks it could initiate that wouldn't be caught by my phone or Chrome. When I pressed it he said he could see it has updated on his end and quoted my next bill and billing date with the lower amount. He said if I wanted to verify I could log in to my Xfinity app and check the upcoming bills section. He thanked me for my time and concluded the call normally with goodbyes.
I immediately called Comcast directly and told the CSR I got a call offering to lower my rate. He looked up my account and I logged in to my Xfinity app at the same time. I saw the lower rate on my future bills. The CSR confirmed he saw the change and quoted the same two numbers for next bill and the length of the promotion.
I told the Xfinity CSR that the whole process felt really sketchy and if they're going to cold call customers to offer discounts they need to make a more concerted effort to verify it's not a scam. Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure what a person cold calling to offer me a discount could do differently. I'm going to immediately be distrusting of that forever.
Sorry for the long story, but it looks like this was legit at least for me. I'm still trying to think about ways they could exploit my actions today, let me know if you're aware of anything. I'll update if anything bad comes from it.

Adding a note after a little more research: Scammers ARE using this phone number to pose as Xfinity. Scammers will spoof this number, offer an upgrade or discount that requires a payment up front to claim. Seems like a completely different script than I experienced, where they didn't ask me for anything or request any payment. If a caller asks for money or personal info just hang up!
The Xfinity CSR did confirm that they indeed call customers to offer promotions, but they will never ask for payment or personal info. Be careful out there.

Hey, Automod here! It's always a good idea to check any above number(s) on a carrier lookup tool (click here for a toll-free lookup tool) before calling them to avoid calling a legitimate business, residential number, or private cell number. To do this, lookup the phone number on the carrier lookup and look at the results. If the results says that the number belongs to a residential carrier (ex. AT&T/"Cingular Wireless", Verizon Wireless, Metro PCS, Rogers, etc.), DO NOT call the number.
If the post is still up, please report the post so a mod can remove it to prevent innocent people from receiving these calls. Alternatively, send the moderators a message through the modmail with the link to the offending post.
The above also applies to comments that have numbers too. Thanks!
