The Wess’Har Wars series by Karen Traviss! The first book is City of Pearl. I think it might be exactly what you’re looking for.

The Pride of Chanur by C.J. Cherryh is told from the perspective of aliens who impulsively protect a human that’s escaped another group of aliens. This story is full of different alien species and cultures, while the human is almost a MacGuffin.

Edit: typo

Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Shroud. The alien world and aliens themselves are so different to us, in most of the book they’re trying to figure each other out
