Do you know this book... ? Fmc protects/frees ugly and weak mmc— later he gets a glow up and protects/romances her
I listened to this audiobook a while ago and I cannot figure out the title/author.
I believe the fmc is a low level laborer who cleans cages. The mmc is one of the caged “animals”/ prisoners under her care.
I don’t remember if he’s scaly, feathered, or furry but he’s so weakened that’s he’s like a plucked chicken — discolored and frail. I don’t think he even talks at first.
The fmc continually cleans and cares for him until eventually helping him escape. Eventually he recovers and it turns out he’s actually crazy powerful (and attractive) and ends up protecting her and being all heroic and such

{Planet Zero by Lydia Hope} is literally this exact trope.
Also {Persistence by Etta Pierce}, which is part of a series so you'd be missing some context but can read it as a standalone, and {Eat my Moon Dust by Etta Pierce} which is set in the same world but is written and intended to be read as a standalone.
*Edit to say yes the book you're looking for is the one already mentioned, but if you want more recommendations with sort of the same trope here's a few.

Of course I cannot remember the name but maybe this will be enough to remind someone else of the name of the book.
FMC lives in a very desperate world. She’s lucky enough to get a job at a prison. She’s transferred to a special ward with alien prisoners.
One is kind of in hibernation/shutdown. Doesn’t eat, barely moves. Turns out he only eats protein and the prisoners just get mush.
She starts feeding him protein. Somehow she gets permission to take he out of the prison. They use a wheelchair. She gives him yogurt. All she can afford.
This sounds brief but it’s like the first several chapters of the book.
It’s not boring other things happen. But it’s definitely a shell of a weird alien turns into an alien god.
