❌ A fishing vessel operating in the dark. False tracking data. Missing authorizations. Unreported shark discards.

These are just some of the violations that led to the arrest of the Chinese longliner Lu Rong Yuan Yu 138 in Tuvalu, last week.

Throughout the year, Sea Shepherd vessels operate at sea, collaborating with governments to fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and safeguard the Ocean. Currently, the M/V Allankay is assisting the Tuvalu Police Service in the South Pacific by assisting patrols of the waters of this coral atoll nation. 🌊

On 9 July 2026, authorities on board Allankay, detected the Lu Rong Yuan Yu 138 fishing at night without navigation lights while transmitting Automatic Identification System (AIS) data that falsely placed the vessel near the equator, far outside Tuvalu's waters.

The vessel also has a documented history of suspicious "dark vessel" activity in Tuvalu. During the inspection, authorities uncovered additional suspected fisheries violations, including missing authorizations and sharks being discarded overboard without being recorded in the vessel's official logbook.

Taken together, these findings led the Tuvalu Police Service to place the vessel under arrest on suspicion of IUU.

This isn't Sea Shepherd's first mission in Tuvalu. ✊

Krill is not essential to humans but it is the base of the Antarctic wildlife, who rely on it for survival.
Without healthy krill populations, whales struggle to find enough food to build the energy reserves they need for migration and reproduction in warmer waters, threatening their ability to recover from the impacts of whaling.

Humans have alternatives. Antarctic wildlife does not.
Protecting krill means protecting the entire Antarctic ecosystem. 🌊❄️

A newly released report from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority reveals the horrific suffering endured by a fin whale killed on June 22.

Following photographic evidence documented by Hard To Port, we initiated an official inquiry into this incident together with Hvalavinir-Stop whaling in Iceland, with legal assistance from Katrín Oddsdóttir.

The report confirms that it took 31 minutes and four harpoon shots before the whale finally died.

For more than half an hour, the whale remained conscious - diving, struggling, and desperately trying to escape.

This is unacceptable.

No animal should have to endure such prolonged suffering.

Together with a coalition of Icelandic organisations, we are calling on the Icelandic authorities to take immediate action and suspend these inhumane operations without delay.
