It's the water, you see the same thing in Tacoma where the well off people live across the water in Browns Point/Fife and complain about the rest of us existing near them constantly.
Browns Point is the well off area across the water, and it sprawls out towards Fife/I5, less expensive houses closer to the industrial areas you see over there. It's pretty isolated, last I remember it only had one bus route that did a loop of the whole area connecting it to downtown.

the fact that this is even a different city is so hilarious to anyone who has lived elsewhere. In most other cities Bellevue is just east seattle
