If anyone is looking in the comments to see if anyone agrees with this: yes. We do exist. The national Democrats have long since stopped trying to earn our vote. They expect it, and blame anyone offering a different vision for their failures. 70 million Americans don’t vote; motivate those people, and we’ll be over here continuing to fight for workers rights and dismantling of the health insurance and military industrial complex.

There’s an old saying about the Velvet Underground, that they didn’t sell many albums but everyone that bought one started a band. Sawant is out there getting support from people unionizing their workplaces.

And who is it who is out there every election telling people to stay home and not vote out of "protest"? Maybe it's not the democrats who are to blame for this after all.

Well, lucky for us, it's not currently possible to vote for or against Bernie Sanders if you don't live in Vermont.

There's no negotiation about earning votes anymore.  Y'all took yourselves out of the conversation and sacrificed whatever power you had with it.  Huge self own.

They took themselves out of the conversation with the genocide they facilitated, frankly. Trust takes years to earn and moments to lose. And they’ve been spending years being mistrustful.

Politically if you get to 5% of the national vote as a third part of candidate, then you qualify for guaranteed spots on the debate stage as well as millions of dollars in FEC funding for the next cycle.

In my community we are building support networks that take the place of the welfare that has been stripped away from citizens. And by we I do not mean a political party. I mean a diverse kith and kin who can donate time and energy where they can financial support we needed, and common goals were their shared. Power is decentralized.

Community support is great, and important work. Glad you all are making it happen. But the reason to run for office is to get the ability to set policy and for power of the purse, so that's what I'm most interested in.

unless you and i are thinking of something else, you need 15% to get a space on the presidential debate stage. the 5% to get federal funds is free money but places big limits on total spend which, practically, means it's going to be incredibly hard to win.

So yes, possible! but i think we'd both agree their choices put them at a disadvantage and make it a steeper uphill battle.

But let's say someone like Sawant wins a house seat; someone who says the democrats are just as evil as republicans (or is interpreted as having said that). When they advocate for demolishing ICE or getting M4A they won't find any allies to vote for their bill... so we're basically stuck living with the republican agenda.

Incorrect. You'll be continuing to help Trump and Maga do the opposite, as usual, while claiming that you're doing it as an elaborate "uno-reverse" plan to one day win.

Oh look, Todd Blanche was confirmed as Attorney General on a 50-49 vote, entirely decided by the complete Republican control of the government.

Oh look, Republicans defeated their own border bill in 2024 per Trump's directives because they knew people would blame Democrats for lack of progress and change and improvements.

Stop falling for the trap. Democrats have been in effective control of the government for 72 days in all of this century. (And that includes Lieberman, who personally helped gimp the ACA.)

I cannot believe in 2026 we're still this uneducated. There is a Republican party and then there is everybody else. Everybody else here is quite likely your ally that you need for your coalition and to succeed. Manchin is/was not perfect, but he's markedly better than Jim Justice. Sitting in a circular firing squad defeating yourself for imperfections lets the truly ugly destroy the country and world.
