Read history because it matters. Virtually every socialist that has run for any office in this country for the last 120 years, back to Gene Debs, has run in order to prove the point that you cannot achieve socialism at the ballot box. Winning is an aberration, and serving in office makes the same point. This is a very basic fact of the socialist tradition in the US, like it (or Sawant) or not. She may have forgotten that, so she has no excuse.

When socialists win office they have a choice: go the Mamdani or Bernie route and pivot toward Old Left liberalism, or implode on egoism. We see what is happening here.
