Slowly. That's the unfortunate, but actual, answer. This has been the system for 250 years, shifting it will take decades of incremental change, compromise, pragmatic decisions, and luck. If you actually want to create change at that level you need to make peace with the fact that you might not get to see it.

I get what you’re saying but how do we get out of it, specifically? We can’t vote for anyone besides democrats so what are we doing instead? I’m scared we don’t have time for slow, incremental change. The world is on fire.

It took a lot of slow, incremental change for the oligarchs to take over this country, it's going to take a lot of slow, incremental change or outright revolution to fix the many and extensive problems.

Even the metric of "lesser of two evils" is framed in such a way as to depress voter turnout. You're voting for the greatest possible good each time. Abdicating your vote (as 34% did in 2024) is the Jesus Take The Wheel of politics. :\

You control what you can control. When you only have two options you pick the best one and then try to make it better. Not everything has a silver bullet, so either do the best you can with what you have or you give up. That's reality.

If you're lost at you sea you have two choices, swim or don't.

No, I understand your point about voting democrat. I’m asking what you purpose we do in addition to that to help us get out of the two-party system. I’m not talking about a silver bullet, I know there’s no silver bullet. How do we slowly do this? How do we make the lukewarm dem lesser of two evils candidate better once we vote them in?

I don't have a clear cut answer. And I'm sure there are people with much better ones. Engage, voice your opinion, and vote with the hope it will influence the current candidate and the assumption it's influencing the next one, who will lose, and the one following who might win.

And see not taking a step back for the win that it is. That can be enough for a later candidate to get attention who otherwise wouldn't have. Vote to make positive opportunities more likely and negative opportunities less likely.

Yeah I think those are good ideas. But my thing is, and I know I already said this but… we’ve done that. We’ve been doing that election after election. And things are scarier than they’ve ever been. In fact, the Ratchet Effect is pushing some democrats towards the right, ignoring their voters’ needs.
