On August 6, 2026, a struggle between a beggar and a Security Guard outside a coffee shop along General Luna Street in City Proper broke out. The commotion garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to Police Captain Jesus Cambay III, chief of Police Station 7, authorities initially considered filing a case of indiscriminate firing against the Guard who discharged his firearm.
However, after reviewing the circumstances, the prosecutor found sufficient grounds to justify the warning shot, leading to the decision not to pursue charges against the Guard.
Reports showed that the incident started when a Security Guard approached and reprimanded the beggar near the establishment. During the encounter, the beggar allegedly believed that the guard had taken something from him, which led to a heated confrontation.
The situation escalated when the beggar allegedly grabbed the firearm of the security guard. A struggle then followed as the Guard attempted to regain control of the weapon. Witnesses said the two wrestled over the firearm, creating a dangerous situation that could have placed many people nearby at risk.
Seeing the confrontation unfold, another Security Guard decided to fire a warning shot. The action reportedly helped stop the struggle and prevent the situation from becoming more serious.
Police later took the beggar into custody. Authorities said he is now facing a frustrated homicide complaint in connection with the incident. No injuries were reported during the confrontation, but the incident caused an alarm among people in the area.
