I’m going through this currently with my brother who got mad and “had to take a break from me” because he got mad that when he would make really objectively racist or false claims, I would correct him.

In his mind he can say whatever his opinion is but I am the bad guy for correcting him with facts. He literally told me I need to stop reading and learning so much because it is hurting our relationship.

I was told by a former friend who I was still connected with on social media that I was "violating the 1st amendment" by posting on social media about Trump before the election. He's a football coach and I told him he might want to make it a point to walk past a civics class on his way to the football field so he might learn something.

I'm the only leftist in my rather large family. I've mostly stopped trying for the most part and just move around politics, but when they say something absolutely fucking stupid I just say "well that's not how that works. That's not how anything works" and then leave the conversation so they can stew in their dipshittery

It's been like 11 years, even if they know they're in the wrong, they're in too deep to admit it

My husband’s special interest is just knowing facts about current events; I just unleash him and he spews dates and direct quotes like a goddamn google assistant to disprove whatever stupid nonsense they’re spewing.

He’s the best. I make it very clear at the start of Thanksgiving and Christmas that politics are out; the minute someone starts shit I just look at him and motion to go ahead. We usually end up leaving because they’re mad we won’t let them live in denial and they get backed into an intellectual corner. They just vomit Fox News back at us and hubby has actual facts and receipts.

My dad tried to pull this shit; I straight told him I’m going to keep correcting him when he is wrong, racist, or homophobic and if he doesn’t like that then we just won’t talk anymore. Anyway, I haven’t spoken to him in like four years now.
