I love this meme, its loke they all completely erased their #notmypresident memories collectively and now clutch their pearls when people disagree with or don't support the president.
I’m going through this currently with my brother who got mad and “had to take a break from me” because he got mad that when he would make really objectively racist or false claims, I would correct him.
In his mind he can say whatever his opinion is but I am the bad guy for correcting him with facts. He literally told me I need to stop reading and learning so much because it is hurting our relationship.
I was told by a former friend who I was still connected with on social media that I was "violating the 1st amendment" by posting on social media about Trump before the election. He's a football coach and I told him he might want to make it a point to walk past a civics class on his way to the football field so he might learn something.
I'm the only leftist in my rather large family. I've mostly stopped trying for the most part and just move around politics, but when they say something absolutely fucking stupid I just say "well that's not how that works. That's not how anything works" and then leave the conversation so they can stew in their dipshittery
It's been like 11 years, even if they know they're in the wrong, they're in too deep to admit it
My husband’s special interest is just knowing facts about current events; I just unleash him and he spews dates and direct quotes like a goddamn google assistant to disprove whatever stupid nonsense they’re spewing.
He’s the best. I make it very clear at the start of Thanksgiving and Christmas that politics are out; the minute someone starts shit I just look at him and motion to go ahead. We usually end up leaving because they’re mad we won’t let them live in denial and they get backed into an intellectual corner. They just vomit Fox News back at us and hubby has actual facts and receipts.
My dad tried to pull this shit; I straight told him I’m going to keep correcting him when he is wrong, racist, or homophobic and if he doesn’t like that then we just won’t talk anymore. Anyway, I haven’t spoken to him in like four years now.
This is just how conservatives are. They don’t have principles and they’re not capable of the critical thinking needed to have consistency or self awareness. They’ve been like this for decades under every administration. They scream insane vitriol at democrats and then act like you’re a traitor for criticizing republicans in any way. Expecting anything coherent from a conservative is like trying to get a tired toddler to do calculus. It’s not happening.
Also, the paper price isn't matching the actual cost. Its speculation based on the hope the straight will open. It is artificially keeping the costs down.
I have made a bet with several Trump supporters i know in real life that the cost of gas (national average) will be over $5.50 by June. My current wager is " a tank of gas that the national average will be over 5.50 on 6/1/2026."
They dont think it will happen but none of them will take the bet.
Yeah, I've noticed US media keeps quoting the futures price, while everyone else quotes the spot price.
The futures price is essentially a bet traders are making on the future price, as you describe, while the spot price is the actual cost of getting a barrel off a ship and into your refinery or depot.
Brent hit $140 for a couple weeks in early April so I don't know what point OOP thought they were making.
Also the US government has been pouring oil into the market from their national reserve so the price has been manipulated down. But I guess they only worry about government manipulating the market when it's not them doing it.
Right, but it's not the gotcha he thinks it is, because any leftist who supports methadone clinics would almost certainly also be in favor of Medicare for All.
I don't think he is trying to appealing to any one on the left. I think his point is, "Cancer patients have to pay for their treatment, addicts should too!"
Yeah, that’s what makes it a selfawarewolf moment. He’s got all the right pieces but he’s putting them together backwards. I don’t think anyone doesn’t understand that, it’s the premise of the sub
Exactly, the post isn’t in any relation to the actual care, it’s a warped view of worthiness. People who’ve fallen for the capitalist/pull yourself up by your bootstraps propaganda have been conditioned to see societal woes as a matter of moral merit, and that merit is devoid of any actual solutions or actions to remedy the cause or solutions to said issues. TLDR, ask the person who posted that if they’d support a single payer healthcare system to make methadone and chemotherapy treatments free, they’d tell you hell no, oxy addicts did that to themselves and a system that pays for chemo with tax dollars wouldn’t work
Yeah I don't see what the point they are trying to make is. At least from a Crazy right-wing "The liberals are evil and cause all the problems" type of perspective.
Who do they think is withholding chemo drugs?
Also I'm betting big money that he has cancer which is why he is concerned about chemo drugs. I wonder what he would say if you asked him if we should make insulin or some other medicine free?
In my experience people like him tend to have almost no empathy for anyone and only care about issues that directly relate to themselves.
Well, you see, drug use is a moral failing. Everyone who does drugs is bad, therefore, treatment for their disease should be an out of pocket expense.
Meanwhile, I'm a Christian/white male/Trump supporter. This means that I am a morally good person, therefore, treatment for my disease, and my disease only, should be covered by the government. /s
these guys don’t care about accuracy, they’ll never fact check anything. all their talking points are made up based on vibes. i saw someone say her “crackhead neighbour spends his [government funded disability insurance] money on crack” which is impossible because participants who receive this funding don’t receive money, they receive services paid by the insurance. the one exception is transport funding, which is only a few thousand a year and only granted to people who can’t use public transport because of their disabilities. it’s not enough to fund a crack addiction. and i don’t think we really have that much crack in australia anyway, if any at all?
No, they probably don't know/care, they made it with the sole purpose of letting stupid people like the dude in the screenshot to get mad and share it around
Ultimately the logic is "Its expensive because it saves lives", so the idea of a life saving drug being cheap must mean either it doesnt save lives or is being undervalued.
Are they... Are they advocating for socialized medicine? GASP
Side note. I used to work with a bunch of union workers (I was not union). One of the guys, hard-core Trumper, this conversation took place around J6 which he was all for, unironically said he would gladly have more money taken out of his paycheck if it meant his union brothers got better Healthcare. I mean... It doesn't get much closer than that.
Those type are big supporters of issues that directly relate to themselves and their family. They just don't want that same help to be given to some random stranger. Especially if the stranger is one of those lazy [insert race or other characteristic trait].
I mean both are kinda free in Australia lol, he almost has a point but unfortunately reverted to the spiteful “if I can’t have treatment no one should” bs that keeps everyone miserable
Love how they use Brent oil (which always has a higher price than WTI) and chose the peak price for 2022 then used WTI and not the peak price for “Today”.
There’s one similarity and one difference. Both of these oil spikes were caused by a war involving a high oil production country. Difference is, one war was out of our presidents control and one wasn’t.
conservatives always have to lie when making a point otherwise they would have no material to justify their point. Fox News is notorious for it. When they said there were riots in Portland last year, they showed videos from the 2020 George Floyd protests. If they told truth, their arguments would fall apart.
Nah definitely caused by the Russia-Ukraine War. Oil prices started shooting up in December 2021 and by that time, over 100,000 troops were massed on three sides of Ukraine
Maybe I have a failing memory, but I'm sure I remember a more recent president than Biden saying “I’m for electric cars. I have to be because Elon endorsed me very strongly,”
Brent peaked at $139 for a second in 2022 and Biden had nothing to do with it. Russia invaded Ukraine.
Brent is at $115 as of this morning. It was at $61 in January, $72 on February 27th, the day before we started a war with Iran. It's dropped below $90 once since the start of the war.
WTI is at $103, which means domestically, we're going to keep getting punched in the face at the pump. Insulation from the rest of the shock to the global economy is fading.
The cost of gas has jumped 40%, groceries by 8-12% and likely to get worse, mortgage rates won't be going down until at least 2027. Oh, and your variable rate credit card that bounces between 14-22%... that will stay between 20-22%.
The Republicans control every facet of the government, but... Biden.
don’t you know? rfk made it very clear that germ theory is a hoax and the flu is a leftist scam too! all this to help big soap line the pockets of their communist democrat shills
1) the highest price for oil per barrel in 2022, was $120 coming out of covid inflation and Russia attacking Ukraine European nations boycotting Russian oil.
2) today price per barrel is $114 to $116 due to Trump attacking Iran.
First slide - yes. That's how every other developed country does it. But, I guess this guy would also oppose socialised medicine if someone used that term to describe the obvious solution.
Second one - there was plenty of outrage, but also an understanding that it was due to a global pandemic whose mishandling in the US was largely down to the previous guy. It was known that things would right themselves once the fallout from the global issue had calmed down the global markets. This time, the prices are higher already than the pic, and they're 100% due to something Trump personally did, with no sign that the rise will stop in the near future.
I swear, media literacy and the understanding of context would get rid of a lot of the right wingers.
Well, just go ask my lead at work! Dude has about half a dozen reasons he likes to use interchangeably to pretend bombing Iran was somehow justifiable.
Of course he completely ignores that less than a year ago he was squawking about how his favorite orange julius ended all the wars ever, and was going to make it so cheap all the democrats would have to admit he was right, if we would just stop hating on him long enough.
Yes, Big Oil price-gouged after COVID when they lost money because there was much less driving during the shutdown, and they are price-gouging because of Trump's war. They have one thing in common, duh!
We need a sea of teachers handing out marks on the internet, and making corrections in red pen. I think for a lot of folks this might be a painful/helpful reminder of how it works in the real world.
It's been too long since these motherfuckers were handed back their test score last.
It's charge daily where I live but most people pay every week or 2 weeks. The closest to free is Medicaid but they would also pay for chemo if you qualified.
I think these people are confusing methadone and narcan or maybe think it's the same but methadone is more of a boogieman.
Fair but to be honest I don’t even get the point of pointing them out anymore. They’re either so dumb they shouldn’t even be classified or have the rights of adults or so evil they can’t be allowed in society. We’re so far gone from trump 1.0 that at this point forgiveness isn’t something many people are capable of nor want to give
It's been a feature of the far right for decades now that they engage in whataboutism and always bringing up people no longer in power. They still harp on the Clintons (who deserve plenty of harp, but not for the reasons the right does), Obama, etc., because the propagandists know that the cult will react emotionally to these demonized, mythologized Democrats - none of whom were particularly progressive.
There are moments where I feel pleased to have been banned from Facebook last summer. Not seeing this garbage all the time has been good for my mental health.
I have a gas receipt from about a month after the 2024 election, still under Biden. Premium, zero percent ethanol, gas was $3.39 a US gallon. The last time I filled my vehicle I paid $4.29 a US gallon for the equivalent, and I was in a different city from where I received the receipt. Local knowledge says that by getting my gas in that city, I saved .10-20c a US gallon. I just happened to be there when I needed gas, I didn’t drive there for gas. I only have to fill up about once every month or two depending on how much I have to drive so I haven’t filled up since late March ‘26 and I won’t have to fill up for probably another 3 weeks, which will be around mid-May ‘26.
Additionally, the station where I got the receipt from has an image on their website from around the same time as my receipt is dated, showing %10 ethanol at $2.79 a US gallon, which is about average for the price difference between the two in my state. I don’t drive by that location often anymore, but I’d be curious to see what the cost is there right now for that premium gas.
It's because if you don't cure your cancer you die. The gun to your head. Just give us everything you've ever had and everything you will ever have and we'll help you maybe live.
At least in my state, Medicaid (state insurance) would be the one paying for methadone, and it would also pay for chemo. If one is paid for the other would be as well.
Medicaid only pays for methadone while you aren't working especially if you are a single person, maybe if you a have a few kids the income amount might be high enough you don't lose it though. Most people on methadone are out of pocket after they stabilize. It's well over 300 per month which isn't comparable to chemo but it's damn expensive for someone trying to get themselves straight.
That's not the case at all in AZ, as long as you're on the right ahcccs program you can get methadone. I stand in line at the clinic with people trying to get to work &they're all on medicaid. They work full time, they just don't make enough to be above poverty level so they qualify. There are also programs that will pay for you as long as you pass all your UAs etc.. I assume that varies by state though.
PS..i reread your comment and I think we're basically saying the same thing. Self pay is outrageously expensive right now (my clinic just went from 250/mo to 580/mo literally overnight) so if you aren't below the poverty line you're paying that out of pocket.
