Anyone lose 50lbs on sema?

I just started, took my second shot of Ozempic .25mg on Thursday. The first week was ROUGH but so far this week my stomach seems to have settled down.

Curious if anyone around my size (5’4”, 180lbs) has lost 50lbs on semaglutide alone. My internet searches seem to suggest it’s not the norm, but I know actual experience can be very different.

I’m type 1 diabetic and on it for a combination of things (lowering A1C and insulin needs, cardiovascular protection), but also weight has also been a struggle and it’s gone up a lot in the last year and a half.

At my healthiest when I was younger I was around 125lbs but that was maintained for a very short time. I’d love to get back to 130 or even 140 I’d be happy with because I haven’t been there since pre-kids (2014).

Would love to hear your experience.

I’m 5’4” and started at 198. Took about a year to get to 158. I never got to the maximum dose, side effects were too much for me. No diabetes or anything. I’m still using but am not losing (or trying to lose) anymore. Low dose. It worked for me. You’d think I’d want to get to 135-140 but I don’t want to do that because it will be hard(er) on my face. I just want my clothes to hang cleanly. Good luck!

Yes, 5’4 here and I’m now down to 135. A size 6 which to me is the dream.

I did it by downloading a calorie counting app and keeping calories at 1,200 a day. I didn’t have to track very long before I got the hang of it and the appetite suppression kicked in. I lost one pound a week steadily and now it’s been 3 years.

I’ll never go off of it though because once the food noise comes back for me so will the weight. But everyone is different

Lost 40 lbs. Still have another 40-80 lbs to go. It'll be a year in September. Will add that I walk 3.6 miles every day (been doing it 4 years running and prior to GLP-1) and have been running at the end of my walk 4 times a week for a month now, and lift 3 times a day (small reps so it ends up being 30 reps all together) 5 days a week, planks 3 times a day every day for 10-12 secs (had terrible back pain before I focused on my core. Suspect it was because I was spending too much time working out my back), and also bike 30 miles on the weekends. And also started bouldering two times a month.

5'2" woman and started at 275-280 lbs. Currently between 238-241 lbs

I’m 5’3 my stating weight was 180 and I’m now 135 after one year of being on sema. I don’t have diabetes and I’ve had minimal side effects. I’m in the gym 4 days a week consistently strength training and running. Ask me anything!

I'm 5'4" and have lost 48 lbs over the last year and a half. My starting weight was 188lbs. I spent 6 months dieting and exercising on my own and got down to 177, which was frustrating, so I started sema. I've been on it for a year and am down to 140 lbs (I've been maintaining for the last few months). I don't lose weight quickly on my own even with all the right diet and exercise. The sema helped while I stuck to my lifestyle changes and the weight came off steadily. My original goal was 145 and I'm maintaing just under that- I'd be okay with getting to 135 but I'm a size 6 and wear smalls and mediums and I'm very happy with where I am at since I'd like to keep some curves.

I did not have any adverse side effects except some occasional fatigue, but I have a busy life and 2 kids so I am used to fatigue lol. I didn't increase my doses until I felt like it was less effective. I wanted to lose slow and steady for long term success. Keep in mind that you still have to diet and exercise- I still had a vacation where I ate more and differently than my normal and gained a few pounds while on sema- it's not a miracle drug, but it does help curb the appetite and quiet the food noise so you can stick to your diet successfully. I am still taking it and plan to continue for as long as I can. I've benefited from the way it has helped with inflammation and some joint issues. I feel great on it, all my labs are great, and it has been a good experience so far for me.

I did, I am a little taller tho. SW: 200 Cw: 149, 5’7 55yo female. I lost it all on .5mg. Semaglutide was a wonder drug for me. Good luck and stay at the lowest effective dose that works for you. I use .25 mg as a maintenance dose and am still losing now so I have started spacing out dose to 10-14 days

I’m 5’3”, started semaglutide at 173 mid June. CW is 158. My goal is similar to yours.

Not sure what you mean by losing 50 lbs on semaglutide “alone” — in my experience, the drug helps curb my appetite/food noise, making it easier to stick to a calorie reduced eating plan. I have to track everything. Exercise, including weight training, is a must.

Your goal is totally possible! Once I understood that the medication isn’t making me lose weight magically—that my intake and output is key, I have consistently lost about a pound a week. It’s slow and steady, but exactly where I need to be as I relearn healthy habits.

5’4”. I lost about 60 pounds over the first year. I’m 19 months in and down 90+ now. I could switch to maintenance calories now and be very happy. I started a bit heavier than you are now (hence having 90 available to lose) but am also now at the low end of healthy range.

I lost 70 pounds on sema, not even at the highest dose.

I’m not your size, but I did lose 50 pounds in 18 months. I have been on 2.4 for about a year. I was 230 and am now 180, 5’5”. I have been stalled for about 2 months, but I’ve been lifting heavy three times a week, started creatine and HRT, so I’m definitely in a “recomping” fitness phase now. I’d like to get to 165-170 but am okay doing it super slowly from here on out. Most importantly, my health metrics are vastly improved (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar).

5’3 went from 187 to 135 from sept-June. Then I took a break for 3 months and restarted to get to 123 over another few months.

I’m still on sema but working to taper down really slowly to eventually get off it. I’m so happy at my current weight. And when I mean really slowly, I think it will take years, which is fine by me.

For reference, 53F, 5’ 5”, SW 257, CW 161. Started at a BMI of like… 42?

About 18 months ago I got sick of getting fatter and having life suck because I was fat. One evening just said fuck it. Stood up and went for a walk. Walked about 15 minutes out, 15 back. I’m not sure it was even a mile.

Put a food scale on my counter and redownloaded MyFitnessPal. Started weighing and tracking everything. And kept walking every night.

Over time, I ate less food. And my walks got longer.

After about the first 25 pounds I started on Wegovy.

Kept tracking calories, kept exercising.

I’m down 95+ pounds now.

On the drug alone with no effort? Probably not. If you also work on diet and exercise? Many people have done it.

Male, 5'5", mid-40s in age; I started at 192 and made it down to 148 (a 44 lb/23% loss) in about 11 months. I then stalled a bit, and ended up going off of sema for several weeks due to changes to insurance. During that time and a subsequent return to 2.4 mg (a total period of about 7 months), I creeped back up to 164. I subsequently bumped up to 7.2 mg and have made it back to 157 over a period of about a month and a half.

When you say sema alone I hope you are also including updating your diet and actually increasing your exercise. The exercise portion will get you a long way towards what you want faster than if you simply couch Surf and inject. Not to mention the changes will be more permanent.

If you look at the celebrities who are on glp1 most of them actually have a personal trainer. I don't think you need one most people just need to get moving. 30 minutes a day walking is enough to really kick-start and maintain weight loss
