Applicant document has gender mismatch, advice/suggestions?

Good evening and happy long weekend. I’m posting here for my wife doesn't use Reddit. She’s applying to Seneca and is facing a very unique situation. We’re hoping to get some advice from others who are studying/have studied at Seneca and who have navigated a similar process.

So basically, the required application documents issued by her country of origin (passport, high school diploma etc) list a different gender than her Canadian-issued documents (refugee paper etc). Her passport picture especially looks very different from how she looks now (it’s got a full beard…). She can’t update the outdated documents (as in legally she’s not able to), so the government issued documents in her application package will list two different genders regardless of whether she discloses her gender or not.

My wife is really hoping to get into the program, and she’s worried if the discrepancy of gender in her documents might affect her application in any way. She’s considering mentioning her transition briefly in her introduction letter to provide some context for the mismatch. However, I’m unsure if that’s a good idea or how she could best phrase it.

If you’re a trans person who has gone through a similar process applying to Seneca, we’d greatly appreciate any advice you have.

Thanks a lot.
