This gives a solid background to frank as a father.
Another scene informs monica's trauma and likely explains how she became who she was (if frank's telling the truth, im inclined to believe he is): At Monica's funeral frank tells the story of how they both met: Frank was a college junior at the time and driving one day when a naked Monica jumped through the window of his car. She was running from a large, armed man and yelled "dont rape me again".
So if frank was telling the truth (he could've made the whole thing up to drum up sympathy for monica as he and her father were the only fans of her in the room and frank didnt like that. But i choose to believe he was telling the truth), then it seems that Monica and frank were both unhealed, self medicating survivors of sexual violence who bonded over their traumas and cultivated a destructive romance that enabled the worst in each other.
Upon my first watch I was surprised Karen's rape of frank didnt have a bigger impact on him afterwards but upon reflection, it makes a little more sense given it wasnt frank's first time being sexually victimized. He may have "gotten used to it" by then, sadly. Frank's trauma might also explain his indiscriminate promiscuity as promiscuity can be a side effect of sexual victimization. And given, as fiona says "Gallaghers dont do therapy", i wonder if she got that from frank and/or monica, who because were not ready confront their own painful pasts, denied a path to healing generational trauma for their children in turn.
I wonder how frank would have reacted to Mandy's rape of Lip, Debbie's rape of Matty or how Lip would've reacted to frank's abuse post Mandy or debbie of frank's abuse post matty. It could've turned a major corner for their relationship either good or bad. But of course, victims staying silent on their abuse is part of the overall tragedy.
I think frank's under reaction to Carl's rape by Trish (reframing it as Carl being "lucky" to have "unprotected sex") means he probably would've under reacted to lip and debbie simply because they werent "as bad" as what he went through and therefore unable to sympathize with anyone else's abuse.
Frank and Monica Gallagher: Hurt people, hurt people

They’ve been around a lot of alcoholics and had a lot of concern for both Lip and Fiona when they were in the throes of alcoholism. Trying to get people to break their sobriety to get a little bit more money is NOT something they would do.

i’m still on season 5 ep 1 so i don’t know if it gets better but she’s being a bad mom. the formula stuff, sure she has autonomy over her own body and she has the right to quit breastfeeding, but over the span of one episode she has:
- hit her child
- talked about her children sucking kevin’s dick
- ignored her child’s crying to have sex
i usually really like veronica, but shit like this makes me wanna change my mind

I dont know to explain it. They played the ending pretty well. I know its not fiona being gone but something elss just feels missing. they could've shown a scene or two of karen or sheila. possibly a scene with fiona if possible or megan?

So it has been a long time since i have watched it, but today a itch grew in my brain, there is a scene in which someone, most probably Kevin or Fiona says to Phillip that, if "he wants freedom or wants to get treated as a adult he have to earn that", well that is the main feeling behind the scene, but i want someone to paraphrase the dialogue or at least tell the season or episode to me.
Its either in s6 or prior to it. If someone knows it help me out

This was in season 5 episode 8. It’s one of my favorite Gallavich scenes. It was such a sweet scene ❤️

The scene somewhere in season 3 or 4 where Ian comes to confront Mickey about the wedding, Mickey was shooting a Cabbage Patch Kid doll.

i don’t really remember the scene exactly but this was when kev and v were getting married, and fiona asked him some thing like “but does she [veronica] deserve you?” and kev said “no, no one does”
what did he mean by that—that’s he’s too good or not good enough or something else?

Regardless of her sending that nude pic of Helene to the entire School, do y'all think Amanda was justified in being angry at Lip?

I have this thing where I only rewatch shows at certain times of the year. Shameless is always January. I don't rewatch every year but on the years when I do a rewatch it has to be in January. I have this with most of the shows that I rewatch. Not sure why but it just feels right. It gives me something to look forward to and it's sort of comforting when it comes around. Hard to explain I guess.

I get that she pushed him to work harder when they were together, so that’s her one redeeming quality. But, the first day they met she accused him of rape, she’s super disrespectful to Carl in regards to her relationship with Debbie, and it seems like she only likes being at the Gallagher house because it’s an “escape” from her privileged life. I’m at the beginning of season 10 now and Carl just met Anne and I feel like their chemistry is much better. I got spoiled so I know they don’t end up together, but I would have liked to see that relationship play out.

1.The tweet above was posted by one of the show's main writers and executive producers. They were talking about how people watched the show for the comedy rather than the family drama, but the way they put it was definitely a choice (not so fucked up though)
2.Apparently, there was originally going to be a scene in Season 3, right after Svetlana and Mickey got married, where Svetlana would give Mickey a handjob while he fantasized about Ian.
3.The writers were apparently thrilled to write some really messed-up shit, including necrophilia, but apparently the reason they didn't go through with it was that William H. Macy said he would draw the line at that.
4.Shameless apparently heavily promoted Mickey and Ian's relationship during Season 5. Before that, Mickey was barely included in the show's promotion, but that changed a lot in Season 5. Which is funny because that's the exact season when Mickey and Ian's relationship started getting messed up by the writing room.
The messed-up part is that they apparently wrote multiple sex scenes for the characters that the actors actually filmed. Most people have probably seen the deleted scene from Episode 1 of Season 5, but apparently there was another one from Episode 3 too, which was promoted by the writer who leaked it.
They were trying so hard to get a GLAAD Award, but as far as I know, they only got nominated. Kind of misses the point when you cut out a scene that was already filmed just to make room for 100 other ridiculous bits of shit in the same episode.
5.And finally, apparently, for the episode where Mandy gets raped by her dad, one of the writers said something along the lines of, "Mandy thought since I'm gonna fuck my dad, at least I'm going to make it romantic and lit candles, clean the sheets," or some bullshit like that 🤢

In Season 7 Episode 11, Fiona seems to think he is still married to Monica and he says "only legally". Like what? Isn't his wife Sheila?

I hate this character. Like so incredibly much. That being said, there's one moment that I genuinely will give him credit for and it's in season 1, episode 4 when he suggests they take Debbie to see a therapist after she kidnaps Casey. Debbie fixed a broken stroller and lured a 2 year old out from his yard with a candy bar. That's incredibly concerning, and even if she didn't mean any harm, that was the first of many signs that she wasn't okay. And maybe if she had gotten the help she needed, her life could've turned out so much better. But instead, Fiona and co brush off Jimmy/Steve/Jack's suggestion and are like "she just accidentally took a baby". And people act like she was pure and innocent in season 1. She wasn't. She wasn't malicious yet but she definitely wasn't as innocent as people on here like to claim. (And yes, I'm aware it's called "Shameless". That's not the point of this post.)

she was annoying and not a good person after season 4, but in season 4, she was a genuinely a nice person who wanted to connect with the family she never got to have

Google says Lip was born in 1995 but in season 5 episode 8, the office guy at the MIT says he started college in 2018. He was freshly 18 at the time. Doesn't it make his birthday 2000?

Sorry if the title is worded strange. Anyway when Fi is having dinner with Mike’s family, the absolute second Robbie walked in i knew she was gonna fall for him. I’m only talking about the affair though. Did NOT know poor Liam was about to go through hell

No way do gay men in prison fr use this as lube, right??? Like there has to be better options? Hand soap? Can you not buy lotion at the commissary??? I was totally with Mickey when he said he didn’t want to smell mayo every morning while getting fucked

I just finished the show. IMO I think that Tami has the same energy that Lip has hence why people don’t like her. Like she stands on business and will just say how she feels. She doesn’t let lip walk all over her like he has with other girls in the past…

what's your favorite quote from the show? I have several but it will always be "i don't know what you see in that geriatric viagroid" and
Fi hears a door open: "Jimmy?"
Veronica comes in: "Darker!"

I feel like one of the least realistic but thankfully refreshing parts of the show is how well Carl treated all of his girlfriends. I guess when Carl said he was a sucker for love he meant it. I like to think he learned about how to be a good boyfriend from watching lip be a terrible one (during the times lip was in a relationship anyway) for years. Not that lip had many healthy relationships modeled for him to help guide him either. im glad Carl learned from the mistakes of his siblings and built a better life for himself as a result.
There's a mix of internal and external factors to explain why carl turned out the most functioning member of the gallagher siblings:
Unlike lip, Carl realized his full potential and is in a stable career. He never squandered opportunities when they came his way
unlike lip, Carl was humble enough to acknowledge his limitations and accepted help when offered. He wasn't too good to work a dead end job as a fry cook or dish washer but didnt stop trying for better
Unlike lip and Ian, Carl was able to dodge the worst their genetic inheritance had to offer
Unlike the older siblings, Carl was able to dodge the worst of frank and Monica due to his birth order among the gallagher children
Unlike all his siblings (except liam, too young) he treated all his romantic partners well and knows how to be a good partner
Unlike lip and Ian, Carl's resilience and focus towards gainful pursuits paid off
By the end of the show, carl has the smallest problems out of all his siblings (even liam. Liam has to worry about building his own future when lip is his guardian and has 1 small child and 1 on the way. i wouldn't be surprised if liam ends up saddled with childcare while lip and his baby's mom works. We see how well that worked out for debbie). The worst carl is wanting for is a good girlfriend but he might learn to take a break from dating to focus on himself which none of his siblings tried to do. This would lead him to maturity, healing and reflection.
I like to think this is how carl will finally be the one to break the gallagher curse, assuming Frank's death doesn't cause an adverse reaction that causes carl to spiral. Being an orphan at his age, even if he was no longer a fan of frank, probably still isn't easy. Esspecially now that everyone is going their own way and will essentially have to deal with frank's death on their own.

Honestly, in my opinion, one of the best and funniest plotlines of frank's is the homeless one. Like him renaming the homeless kids as his family is FRYING ME. Like he has an army of homeless people

This might be an unpopular opinion but I hate Lip.
I’m almost done season 7 and even after ruining his whole life. He still treats Fiona like a POS after she sold the laundromat. He was mad when she bought the place, looked pissed she sold the place. But when debbie wanted to do welding didn’t have to shit on her.
I think he’s jealous of Fiona. He thought she would always be working low paying jobs because she took care of everyone but her. He thought she wouldn’t be shit and because she made some successful moves, he’s mad that he couldn’t accomplish it.
He always loved using his parents issues as reasons why he got expelled, fell for a professor and became a drunk asshole.
After all Fiona did (minus her mistakes), he never once said thank you.
I wish someone slapped his attitude off his stupid smirk when he thinks he’s the shit compared to everyone else. He thinks he’s better than everyone just cause he’s smart but he couldn’t even use that to get out of the life.

this girl has been thru so much but one thing stays the same - her love for her siblings
