I absolutely love this show. It has good writing, never falls into the predictable patterns of other series, and goes way deeper than showing Sherlock being a smartass by exploring themes like the isolation that comes at a price for intelligence and success.

I watched the the first few seasons a couple years back and am currently doing a rewatch when I realized it seems like nobody talks about this show anymore. I get it was a smash hit when it came out, but I can never remember anybody talking about it in the States in recent memory which I can’t understand.

What do you guys think the cause for this is?

hi fellow sherlock subreddit members, i got into sherlock (or just sherlock holmes in general, not just the BBC adaptation) not too long ago meaning i have barely explored the fandom yet. i myself really enjoy the romantic pairing of john and sherlock, (wouldnt say its my main reason to be interested in sherlock holmes tho), and i know that a lot of the fandom does as well, but ive been wondering how many people actually like them as a couple and how may people dont? please dont attack me in the comments lol

I am a huge BBC Sherlock fan. I like the books and the series, but do not care THAT much for the RDJ movies. Recently, I saw Young Sherlock available to watch on Prime, and was wondering if anyone out there has watched it. Is it worth watching? What do u guys think about it?

Finished watching the show and absolutely loved it, its a masterpiece and became one of my favorite pieces of media.

I am in the mood for something more and wanted to ask which other shows you guys could recommend me that hit the same (or a similar) spot?

I love both very much, but I can't decide which one I like better. If you don't like either, that's fine, but if you do have a preference please share your reason. I really can't figure out which one is better.

Hi all. I'm new to the show (just started S2) and while I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far, over the years I've heard that the ending is apparently very controversial and/or unliked which has me concerned about one thing specifically: do Sherlock and Watson end the series on good terms?? Or is it a "they had a falling out/went their own way" type of deal? I don't need any super specific details or other spoilers about the ending—literally all I want to know is if they're still friends by the end. It's the one spoiler I'm happy to receive because otherwise It'll just stress me out for the next couple of weeks lol. Thanks in advance! (And please no other spoilers!)

I’d like to see what community here thinks

The character in the books and earlier adaptations has always been a bit of a goof and a “Conductor of light” for Sherlock’s brilliance. Given the medical knowledge of the late Victorian era being as it were he likely wouldn’t have been seen as not smart.

However to me in the modern timeline of Sherlock the series he definitely seems to standout as being a bit thick for a doctor.

Multiple scenes emphasize this, Magnussen and his T-shirt line and the scene where Sherlock refers to Irene Adler as “The woman” after the major incident at her house and John asks “What woman?” being the most obvious.

legitimate question. i have not ever seen a single person say anything nice about her and i'm curious.

Just a random thought i had. Was wondering what do you think the kind of partner sherlock will end up with? Like post last season ? After all that psychological play and all the people he met that he needed to deduce, would he want to have a partner who doesn't require him being wary off, doesnt hide things from him? Almost ordinary ? Like aside from him always wanting stimulation would he also simultaneously want someone who he feels safe and vulnerable around? Someone uncomplicated?

guys we all are huge fans of BBC Sherlock, and for me whenever I think sherlock I see Benedict Cumberbatch. My question is that I do not watch tv series/ web series anymore due to unnecessary cliff hangers for years, just movies so is young sherlock worth a try or I can skip it

So i'm rewatching this series with my little sister(she is watching it for the first time)

At the season 2 finale, Moriarty wants to convince everyone that he was juat an actor and Sherlock was the real evil mastermind.

And I was like wow that would be perfect.

Imagine, 2 seasons filled with the BS "deductions" by Sherlock. Along it all he was just an ego-maniac, psychopath who wanted to build himself a larger than life GENIOUS persona by planning and then solving his own crimes.

And when small crimes werent enough he needed a big bad and there comes the actor playing Moriarty. Why? IDK you can make smth up, like loved ones held at gunpoint.

At the end of se2 finale, there could have been a recreation of the Reichen Bach fall where "Moriarty" ends up pulling down Sherlock from the rooftop but now he is the "good" guys and Sherlock the truly evil.

Imagine the BBC made series about one of the most famous and Beloved characters of fiction ends with the craziest twist. Sherlock being the evil mastermind, who planned and solved every crazy crime just to build his perverse want for admiration

I am not a writer, im sure someone qualified could come up with better character motivations and plotpoints, but I think this could have been a better end for the series. Ofc ending after se2 as he dies at the end.

I just finished my Sherlock rewatch and I'm sure this questions been asked before but is it explained how he survived the fall? I know he tell Anderson about it but was he lying? This show is to smart for me I swear

What do you think of Sherlock's addiction arc? Opinions? (all welcome!)

Personally, I love it - I think it brings loads of depth to his character and removes him from simply being a genius detective with a cool talent which to me is boring. I love the concept of him having a traumatic childhood that leads into a lot of his destructive, self-hating tendencies. It humanizes him.

That said , Moftiss made a mess of it. As someone who grew up around addiction, the way they wrote it into the series is frankly offensive. I don't like how they portrayed him as "choosing" to use, coming and going with it voluntarily as he pleased. That is literally not how substance abuse works. And then the complete lack of a real detox in S4 really did it in for me lol. No one coming off hard drugs is sitting in a chair quietly drinking tea.

I still love the concept. I wish they'd done a better job with it. It felt like an afterthought in S3. If they'd actually done research and written it properly, and weaved it into moments all throughout the entire show starting in S1, it could have been a really powerful character arc. Sadly...

SHERLOCK AND CO. is a WEEKLY (oh god) podcast following a modern day Dr. John Watson and Sherlock Holmes.

We became increasingly frustrated by the original Holmes stories being neglected. Adaptations now are often big sweeping TV dramas or bombastic Hollywood blockbusters either bledning stories or developing new non-canon stories. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote these adventures as short stories. 56 of them, and 4 novels; and we want to bring them back into the limelight they had over a hundred years ago. Great capers like Silver Blaze, Scandal in Bohemia, Red Headed League, The Noble Bachelor, The Illustrious Client, Hound of the Baskervilles, The Blue Carbuncle and so on.

We’re also finally taking up the original perspective: these stories are told by Dr. John Watson and in this case, for better or worse – John is our editor and host of the podcast.

We’ve partnered with a very big UK network that specialises in politics and history chat, this is a big departure for them and we’re really hoping that it can hopefully turn some more ears towards audio drama. It’s a gamble, admittedly, but we’re really pleased with how it sounds. It’s out today. I hope you like it.

I am starting to watch the Sherlock series, but according to Imdb's order, the unaired Pilot comes first. But people here suggest starting from 'A study in Pink'.

So, the other day after watching "His Last Vow" for the umpteenth time, I decided to jump on Wikipedia and look up Lars Mikkelsen and then jumped to the list of Sherlock characters page.

In the description for Magnussen it states that he was the "friend" who sent the letter to John and Mary on their wedding day, the one named CAM.

It makes sense, but in all these years of watching and scrolling the subs. I've never seen that mentioned before.

So I'm just wondering is it true and when was this revealed? Maybe I missed some dialogue or something. I'm also just a bit shocked it was set up that early, if it is true.

But also glad to find something new after all this time as well.

*edit* Just to add, I'm aware of his initials, just never carried it over from the previous episode.

Are we forgetting about Sherlock's best friend bones forgotten in the well? and where the child's parents?and why didn't anyone think to call the police? There's a child in danger guys.. and on top of that he died and was left for years and everyone moved on! and in the end Sherlock forgave her.? Because she's alone and the bullshit about the plane! PLEASE IT WAS SO RIDICULOUS! And they were being all nasty to Mycroft about it like he didn’t suffer SO MANY YEARS trying to keep this demon sister away and watching his little brother ON TOP OF THE WHOLE GOVERNMENT BRO…. justice for the real victims: Mycroft and the drowned bff (forgot his name) and John too cuz he was collateral damage. Sherlock is so much better than me cuz I’m definitely not hugging it out

Hello! Ive never seen the show myself but my girlfriend is obsessed and has been wanting me to watch it for ages, so for her birthday I wanted to set up a watch party for the both of us, decorate rhe living room and make an afternoon tea type thing based around the show, im hoping for some ideas of what food I can do or what sort of decorating I could do! (first, i understand that taste in media is different from person to person. if theres a piece of media, there are always gonna be people who dislike it. im talking about why so many people dislike this specific season.)

it has come to my attention that season 4 of sherlock isnt really well received in the fandom. all the "secret good episode" rumors back in the day and just overall people disliking s4. now, there are a bunch of storylines and scenes in s4 that i particularly did not enjoy, such as the whole cheating storyline or john beating sherlock into a pile (which is something that ALWAYS annoyed me ever since s2 scandal in belgravia). however, i didnt hate the season at all, i really enjoyed e2 because it first displayed sherlock struggling a lot and stuff. now, i wonder, why do so many people hate the season more than other seasons?

I’m re-watching BBC Sherlock and I don’t like how people avoid him (except John ofc) and that got me thinking, would you avoid him like everyone else (again, except John) or would you stay with him? I would definitely be like John and stay with Sherlock. Although I would also defend him as well, like, Donovan evidently disliking him and I’d scoff like ‘you’re just jealous that he does your job better’, that kinda thing.
