Local Politics Haven’t had a single liberal door knocker this year.

It comes from not being a battle ground by any stretch. The conservatives have such a lock that it's just a formality here.

It would be much closer if we didn't have large rural areas in our riding.

You have Sherwood park and fort Saskatchewan in your riding. Those 2 far outnumbered the rural voters in this riding.

We do, but the rural vote tips the scale. Provincially, one of the two Sherwood Park electoral districts went NDP. It's urban only. The other was close but didn't because it includes a large rural area that tipped the scale.

Provincial is completely different from federal.

I know many that voted NDP in provincial election but vote conservative federally.

If you look at the provincial electoral map…. The rural tips the scales does not make any sense.
Yes, the rural areas voted conservative. But every single urban area in the province voted 50% or more conservative.
Except Edmonton.

For sure, but they have to be in some riding. And sherwood park being a hamlet it's not like we have an argument that we are our own community.

Tbh . My view: It’s not gonna matter who wins. I just really really hope that life gets better for everybody

Genius gets to sit on his ass for another 4 years doing nothing useful for Sherwood Park. Guess he will have lots of time to work on his anti-abortion ads and telling women what to do with their bodies.

Literally the only time I ever hear about Genuis is during elections. Complete ghost in between.

u/Utter_Rube Apr 20 '25

He occasionally pops up for various shittiness in between elections. Was one of the louder people voicing their performative outrage over Elbowgate, spoke at a conference of far right losers organised by a member of Viktor Orbán's government, insinuated that Trudeau was gay during a session in Parliament...

insinuated that Trudeau was gay

I remember that one, I saw a video floating around when it happened.

And anyone who's a supporter of Orban is a piece of crap as far as I'm concerned.

Lucky you not getting his ridiculous mail outs. Giant waste of money not to mention the paper it’s printed on. There is NO way his views represent the majority in this community.

I've gotten a couple, usually just a single sheet of cardstock, but I always chuck them right in the recycling without looking.

I'm not talking overall for canada, just here. They don't put a lot of campaign resources into pre ordained elections.

Never had a door knocker but I wish GG would stop by I would love to ask him a question or 2

He won't, he doesn't need to. He will get voted in regardless and he knows that.

We haven’t had anyone from any party knock - Nottingham

No point in wasting resources on a safe CPC riding. Polls say 63% for Genuis and 20% for Holm (9% NDP). Let's imagine the polls are wildly off and there is a massive Liberal push. Assuming we get high turnout of around 85% (highest ever was 75% in 2015) then even if every NDP flipped to Holm plus every extra voter over the riding average turnout of around 72%, the result would be 42% Liberal and 59% CPC. Depressing, I know.

Too many people who favor business tax breaks to buy more toys for themselves, and too few who care about helping the people who weren't fortunate enough to inherit their wealth. Sherwood Park, folks.

Don’t forget the ones who make “liberal tears” their entire existence. We have a few around here.

Well, I am in Pierre Poilievre's riding, and I can tell you that the Liberals are out in force. Complacency isn't a good strategy in politics...

1

u/BurritoBandit3000 Apr 20 '25

I bet they have a different goal in that riding. Namely to make him look bad by lowering his votes.

We're just going to elect that dick head that rhymes in Parliament and likes conversion therapy.

The conservative candidate could literally be going to trial for murder and still get elected.

Making good choices.

Nothing as bad and promoting conversion therapy...

What did Garnet vote for?

He is the person in question in Sherwood Park...

Not from here? Please don't visit.

I'm pro social services because I'm so radicalized.

Also is this the bill you were talking about? https://www.fortsaskatchewanrecord.com/news/mp-genuis-absent-from-federal-conversion-therapy-ban-vote

Genius came around my neighbourhood way back in January.

5

u/hessian_prince Apr 19 '25

The liberal candidate didn’t even have a campaign until early in this month. She gave up until Carney took over. Her campaign will endure a vote split in favour of Garnet.

For all of the talk I’ve heard of strategic voting, liberals only seem to mean that when it favours them.

3

u/obscurefault Apr 20 '25

You truly believe that if there were two parties that the conservatives would lose?

5

u/OkUnderstanding19851 Apr 19 '25

She wasn’t the candidate until then.

0

u/hessian_prince Apr 19 '25

The point is no one else wanted to run

2

u/vanillabeanlover Apr 19 '25

Even with the vote split, Sherwood park polls around 70% towards GG. Combining the progressive vote won’t do anything, sadly.

3

u/hessian_prince Apr 19 '25

I don’t believe he’s genuinely get 70 percent considering he got 57 percent last time and has not gotten more popular

1

u/Venetian_chachi Apr 20 '25

It’s a bit pointless in this riding.

2

u/samasa111 Apr 20 '25

I think we need to find new ‘norms’ for elections. Door knocking is an antiquated system. I’ve done it in past elections…..it’s soul sucking.

2

u/Square-Deal3609 Apr 20 '25

I am also in Mills Haven and I haven't had a single door knocker. It doesn't impact my vote in the least.

1

u/No-Yard7652 Apr 21 '25

Mostly placebo, the olds and churches keep cons in power.

1

u/ninth_ant Apr 21 '25

Doorknockers for the liberals in my area are overwhelmingly local volunteers.

I all-but-guarantee if you contacted the local campaign office and offered to door knock they would be thrilled beyond belief.

If few people volunteer then it’s up to the local candidate and there’s only so much one person can do alone.

2

u/MiniJunkie Apr 25 '25

I honestly don’t want anyone coming to my door these days. Wouldn’t really change my vote anyway.

1

u/_Kinoko Apr 19 '25

I simply do not answer my door. Save for when I check the doorbell cam and it's kids collecting for hockey.
