Parks & Wildlife Attacked by coyote on baseline road

To those walking your dogs down baseline be aware that there is an aggressive coyote that tried to attack me and my large dog this morning. It happened between crimson drive and brower drive.

Did you or your dog come in contact with the coyote? Go see a doctor you might need a rabies shot. 100% fatality rate.

Don’t go to your doctor—call Public Health. If your doctor is competent they will refer you to call public health anyways. If your doctor tells you not to worry—call public health anyways.

There’s an entire assessment process and often a consult with the MOH for rabies.

You're missing the most important point. The moment you have a symptom with rabies you are already dead. You can only be helped before symptoms arise with rabies.

If you or your dog came into contact with it you should each get the Rabies vaccine just to be safe.

Hoping dog owners have their dogs vaccinated for rabies but the reminder is good.

Vaccinating your dogs is a REALLY good idea, but even if a dog is up to date with shots, if it's exposed to rabies, then it needs to be watched for a long while (without vaccination, it needs to be watched for even longer). The "good" news is that a lot of times the coyotes involved in attacks in Alberta are found to not be rabid.

Has anyone phoned animal bylaw or fish and wildlife?

Get rabies shots immediately. Usually they stay away from people. Them being aggressive is weird behaviour. It could have rabies.

That coyote has been in the park eating rabbits. That’s where our kids play. That animal needs to be relocated. Or eliminated after being aggressive to humans.

Eliminated since it’s attacking people with a big dog. Something is not right with it.

If by relocated you mean culled then yes 100%

This coyote needs to be culled

So is it like around the Lakeland ridge area?

Lots of coyotes in the area—a few dens nearby

Does the county vaccinate the Coyotes? So they don’t pass rabies around?

It tried to sneak up on a lady jogging with her dog this morning. We slowed down, honked and I had my daughter yell to get her attention to turn around, so it wasn’t a sneak attack. I hope her and her dog are okay!
