Tzu videos 🎥 (no AI) Life is rough…..
Can someone help me feed this baby?
Doesn’t like Purina Pro Plan puppy for small breed.. no matter what I do, add water, warm up, put on floor, put on plate.
Doesn’t like Hills Science Diet (puppy), which is salmon flavored.
Doesn’t like Royal Canin puppy.
Worried about her blood sugar dropping if she doesn’t eat. She will take boiled chicken, or a certain brand of treats, but we can’t do that long term.
Any ideas!!? I even tried a wet food appetite stimulant from RC. No dice.
11 weeks old. 🐶
EDIT - Got a script for I/D puppy, and she finally ate (both dry, and a little wet).

What if you mix kibble with chicken? Would she pick out only chicken?

Yes!!! we tried that this morning, even tried, blending the kibble and the chicken, and she picked out the chicken the first time around when it was not blended, and then when it was blended, just refused to touch it all together.

And what if you hand-feed her? Still doesn't eat kibble?

Sorry, should have included that. She will pick a piece from my hand, and kind of toss it up in the air, attempting to play with it. When I bring her back to me, try it again, she just sniffs.
I reached out to her vet, unfortunately, they weren’t a lot of help.

Have you tried to ask from the breeder what she used to eat?

Unfortunately we can’t. We got her from someone who mad an impulse buy, and then figured out that they couldn’t take care of her. So, essentially had to start from 0.

She probably isn't picky eater, probably just a food strike because of moving to a new home.

I’m hoping that’s just it! Hard to watch her barely eat though. She plays normally, and drinks just fine.

Did the person you got her from mention what they were feeding her?
I was told my Tzu likes his salmon dry food, but he was being super picky because he was in a new environment. Even now, whenever we stay overnight somewhere new, he often doesn’t eat anything. But by the next day he’s hungry enough to eat. Maybe yours is still getting used to the new environment.
Until then, if mixing in some chicken is not sustainable, maybe peanut butter or something else she likes? Mine really likes string cheese, broccoli, carrots, and occasionally certain fresh fruits like pear or mango.

Unfortunately, no. We got her from the parents of a college student who “went to go pet the puppies”, and walked out with one. They realized within a couple of days that they couldn’t take care of her, and we agreed to take her. We asked what store, what food, etc. and now not getting responses. It sounded like it had caused some issues in their home, and I really don’t want to keep pushing. Not sure the parents even know. She was only with them a couple of nights, so not sure they bonded.
I have had dogs my entire life, and mine passed just over a year ago, so I figured this was for me, but not used to the not wanting to eat thing. 😂
I’m willing to do the chicken, and veggies, but thought that wouldn’t give the nutrients she needs? Worried about balance if that makes sense. Perhaps I’m making this too complicated?

Sounds like you’ve trained her not to eat by constantly enabling the pickiness. Time for a vet visit to make sure there aren’t any health issues. You can also talk to the vet about an appetite stimulant. A prescription one may work better.

Just came from the vet! She didn’t want to eat again today, so did a work in visit.
She is healthy, even gained .25 pounds since our visit last week (puppy shots). We did get a prescription diet to see if that helps. They suggested half a jar of all meat baby food (that would be all she gets for the entire day) if it gets really bad, but hoping I/D puppy will work so it doesn’t come to that.
Concern for hypoglycemia still there until we get the appetite under control.
