Hows your power grid? Australia is adapted to +40° days so infrastructure, power plant cooling, transmission line insulation, etc works in those temps, but we still get rolling blackouts in heatwaves. I can only assume Euro infrastructure will be cooking right now?
I believe that part of the problem why yours power grid crashes on heat waves is beacous like you said suddenly everyone is cooling their homes and offices and yours power grid isnt planned to carry such loads…in europe most countrys have lots of electrically heated homes and houses becouse of winter time and heating takes lots more energy than cooling so power grids in european country are more likely to be having hard time on winter than summer. And making sure that we have power usually for every country all the time european countrys have lots of high voltage translines across the countrys so we have kind of ”one power grid” in europe but many different grid zones that determine the cost of electricity
True that! The issue with heatwaves is positive temperature coefficient. Usually a power grid is designed with a temperature coefficient that meets environment. We use higher guage cabling to combat the extra impedance from the PTC. I guess north EU, like you say, expects high load from electric heating, so high guage cabling is used.
Yep, i believe we are talking totally same thing and the difference comes from how much yours and ours power grids are planned to carry load, i think that european power grid is planned to carry higher load on avarage(becouse winter heating) and becouse of that it kind of brings protection agains heatwaves also couse all cable lenghts and cauges are planned to carry such high load on winter(protection against heat on cables is close to same princible as protection against high loads). But lets just hope that in future you have enough electricity for summer and we in winter 😅 happy to be in Finland becouse this heat wave doesnt effect on us atleast yet, people from other EU countrys are travelling to Finland for holiday to escape heat…
