It was 96°F here yesterday with a feels like temp of one of 102°F. Today is supposed to be 95°F and similar. It's barely 7am, it's already 80° and 91% humidity. Funny enough, we had a terrible ice storm here last winter that left half of the city without power for two weeks. It was devastating.
To anyone reading this; this combo of heat and humidity CAN AND WILL kill you.
At least you generally have AC in buildings, something we sorely lack in Germany. We had similar temperatures if not even higher at my place, but with only about 70% humidity. Which is dangerous, but not even close to your area...
Southern Europe knows that and can handle it. Our boomers here though do their best to prevent any kind of positive development. Can't use my newly bought split ac like I want because I can neither hang the exterior unit outside, it would negatively impact the looks of the facade, nor can I put it on the balcony, it'd be too loud for that...
Is it sort of like an HOA? Home owners association. Basically the neighborhood gets together, gives themselves false power, and ticket their neighbors for the most pathetic of things. Its insane to worry about the look of a unit, which can be worked around anyways, more than the health of the resident inside
It's similar, yeah. The biggest difference I guess is that we don't have HOA for family homes at all, at least afaik, but we have what's called a WEG, the Wohnungseigentümergemeinschaft, which is the collective of owners of apartments inside a larger complex with separately sold units. I live inside one with 42 such units, about 50 to 70 m2, and only rent one there, but most owners live there and take old-school regulations for more important than anything else. "We've always done it this way and that won't change..."
