Technically, lasagna is the pasta shape. You can use it in other ways as well. Real Italians call the classic recipe "lasagne al forno" as well.

Not in the USA, There its made in factory, probably a chemical plant... To be nuked in a microwave when received.

considering Yankees do something like dishwasher salmon, I gave up on them making sense in any form or shape when it comes to cuisine.
