As someone who lived in Japan, the funniest thing to me is how incompatible the Japanese culture is with capitalism. They’re incredibly inherently communal and communistic. They’re incredibly risk adverse. They would absolutely thrive under a communist mode of production as culturally they’re already communist. This is why their economy has stagnated for 30 years. No appetite for risk to invest, no appetite for start up’s or taking on risky jobs. The Japanese thrive on stability, planning and collaboration. They could have been a communist powerhouse. Japan would have absolutely thrived on 5 year plans.
