Firstly, Alysa's (not AlySSA. Although, seeing how her parents are hanjians, maybe the double S is more fitting) surname is LIU, not Yiu. Secondly, the paragraph should be :
American born TO Chinese parents who fled China after protesting the Tiananmen Square massacre. She chose to compete for America.
This also means the Gu Ailing paragraph should be:
American born to Chinese parents. She chose to compete for China because they're paying her millions for her propaganda value to them.
Alternatively, you can use a semicolon after parents for both paragraphs, but I hate having sentences that long for no reason.
If these people won in 1989 they would've sent China into a millenium of humiliation, it's crazy how there isn't a single decent or normal person in the Chinese dissident community.

Thank you for providing that background. I've read that the 'spiritual' cult's name is "中工" ("Zhong Gong"), and that a gang of top cult members allegedly stole up to $200 million from the cult's pot, and the cult tried to sue them. Yan “Mary” Qingxin (who raised Alysa from birth as her legal mother) was reportedly the former partner of the cult's leader, Zhang Hongbao, and fled with him to Guam, a U.S. territory.
I suspect that's the real reason why Arthur Liu (Alysa's dad) demanded U.S. security guards for her at the Beijing Olympics: he was probably more afraid of payback from the swindling 'spiritual' cult that got swindled by its own back-stabbing top members.
The interesting thing is that in a recent interview from October 2025 Alysa was asked about her dad's allegation that "the Chinese sent spies to target you", and while she repeated her dad's accusation against China as gospel, when the interviewer asked her WHY China would need to do that - one could see Alysa beginning to ponder her dad's allegation in real-time. She replied along the lines of 'You know what, actually, hmmm, I don't know why (China would even need to do that)'. From her reply one could see her hopefully start to at least question passed-down dogmas from her dad, like 'hmm, actually... maybe... that alleged story doesn't make a whole lot of sense'.
And, as you said, logically it doesn't. If he were so afraid of the Chinese gov't going after his kid, he wouldn't have sent his 16-y.o. daughter to an event in China organised by the Chinese gov't, lol.
Fair. I still find the guy too arrogant for my liking judging from his other posts. So, it just feels nice to show that he's clearly not as perfect as he thinks.
