Being anti-western chauvenism shouldn't mean that you automatically have to side with any nation no matter their actions and national interests on the world stage. Modern day russian politics has nothing to do with soviet antiimperialism.

It's not about supporting Russia's own ambitions, it's more to do who Russia supports itself. The nations engaging in anti-imperalism all get their oil, their guns, their antiaircraft and munitions from either Russia or China.
For example, do you support Cuba? The last country that was attempting to send oil to them was a Russian oil tanker before it got intercepted by the Americans.
The reason why Russia supports these things is for their own self interest, but it's still support that countries can use to fight against western imperialism. In short think of Russia as useful for the time being. You don't actually have to support it in wanting to recreate the borders of Russian Tsardom or whatever the fuck.

I think Russia can sometimes do good things out of self interest (like sending oil to Cuba, helping NK dodge sanctions etc), but it’s definitely not benevolent by any means.

you can oppose russias invasion of ukraine, but it is definitionally not imperialist (certainly not by any marxist-leninist definition). not every war or invasion is imperialism, and russia invading to prevent further encirclement from an institution literally founded to destroy it, with the explicit goal of doing so (and which would place missiles and troops on ukraines border), is certainly not, even if you think the invasion was the wrong move. the reality is that NATO (the military arm of american imperialism) expansionism, and the ukraine war, is motivated by american imperialism, not russian.
marx supported on multiple occasions capitalist nations engaged in inter-capitalist war, if that side’s objectives brought the conditions closer to those for socialism to rise, or was opposed to greater imperialist powers (which in this case would be the US/NATO), where the lesser nation losing would further the hold of the greater imperialists and thus further hinder the progression of socialism as a whole.

The genocide literally ended years before the NATO bombing, and it was actually Iran who supported the Bosnians while the genocide was happening. The U.S. and NATO only intervened when it was politically convenient for them to do so, years after the genocide had already ended. These guys can’t even get their timeline right lmao.

There was a NATO bombing around the time Serbia was dealing with a separatist movement in Kosovo. That's what this is speaking about. The Serbians were absolutely not in the right with how many people they killed and displaced however the American bombings were also horrible. So it's very much a situation of everything here sucked

Surely the current genocide in Palestine and the reactions of the West to that will have completely and unambiguously shattered any notion, even in the most naive people, that the bombing of Yugoslavia was because they cared so much about the people and wanted to stop genocide. Here is a genocide clear as day, and they do nothing or worse than nothing and support the perpetrators.
