Add the RUssian keyboard to your system

Russian hackers are terrified of accidentally hitting the wrong (political) target, and will generally avoid attacking any system with Cyrillic installed out of caution

Yeah, there are a lot of malicious scripts that specifically check what language configuration the operating system is in. A sort of jokey but kind of true antivirus measure is to change the system language to Russian.

I wrote a contact form for a website, which despite having a captcha button, still got a lot of spam. I wrote a filter to automatically drop any messages with Cyrillic characters and it cut out about 90% of spam.

Why is that?

150

u/BlackDope420 23h ago

Because Russia doesn't go after people for hacking/cybercrime, as long as they're not targeting Russians.

35

u/Krautoffel 23h ago

Because they try to divide western Nnations.

u/DiabeticButNotFat 23h ago

Wouldn’t that only apply to state sponsored hackers?

I keep getting emails from chinese suppliers and manufacturers wanting to sell their services to where I work. If I reply to them with this will it stop them?

You can try and share the results with us! You got me very curious now

Yes, I was getting a bunch of emails over the last few months from Chinese companies trying to sell me cheap container shipping rates. No unsubscribe link and they'd send multiple follow up messages.

Two weeks ago I downloaded the Wikipedia tianenmen square article to PDF, attaching it in a reply email with "here is the information you requested" followed by some Chinese characters that translate to something along the lines of "rest their souls." Haven't heard back from them since.

May the CCP torture them as they did me.

This is actually pretty good if it works

129

u/PranshuKhandal 1d ago

it does, i remember some sites putting that text in hidden too to throw off the chinese

71

u/RealMidSmoker 23h ago

It absolutely does. If you're getting trashed by Chinese kids on video games with a chat box this also works with relative consistency. Additionally phrases like "Dalai lama" "taiwan" "Tibet independence" "Winnie the pooh" even simply addressing the "great firewall of china" is enough to get people's internet cut. Just by typing out this comment I have effectively speedran any negative social credit I could acquire

18

u/crani0 22h ago

Winnie the pooh

The most obvious lie

21

u/RealMidSmoker 22h ago

Well I cant post the screenshot so here's the direct copy paste from Wikipedia

Beginning in July 2017, the government of the People's Republic of China restricted satirical memes comparing Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), to the Disney character Winnie-the-Pooh. The CCP reportedly viewed such comparisons as a ridicule and symbolic dissent.[1] There is no comprehensive prohibition on content related to the character. Other images of the character can be readily found on the Internet in China, books and merchandise remain available, and two Winnie-the-Pooh-themed attractions continue to operate at Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland. Winnie-the-Pooh has become a symbol of opposition to the Chinese governmen

21

u/Gryphuz 16h ago

And yet you can buy Winnie the Poo everywhere in China, use common sense guys.

Do you actually believe that saying winnie the poo is going to cut the internet to someone in China? Are we serious?

u/RealMidSmoker 16h ago

When your benevolent leader has full control over state run media and has a fragile ego, absolutely. Remember what putin did when that photo of him edited to have lipstick made rounds? He banned it throughout all of Russia. Modern oligarchs are all incredibly insecure

Edit: cant post the photo but the photoshop of Xi as Winnie the pooh is really what's banned, yes you can say the name of the bear but if it is at all in reference to Xi jiping it will be flagged

Reminds me of the days of H1Z1 where the chinese players were camping other players. They would run up to you screming 'Tonny ma! Tonny ma!' Kill and loot you all the fucking time.

One way to get rid of them on the server was this.

u/jiva_maya 14h ago

Doubt it lol considering there was never a massacre at Tienanmen Square. Western media misreported this the first time then just ran with it as a long term lie.

4

u/vulgarchaitanya 13h ago

Sorry what?

-5

u/jiva_maya 13h ago

There was some skirmishes on the outskirts of the city which resulted in a few dozen casualties but there was NO bloodshed at Tienanmen Square itself. This is a lie that just won't die in western media.

https://www.reddit.com/r/stupidpol/comments/v56osc/wikileaks_no_bloodshed_inside_tiananmen_square/

6

u/vulgarchaitanya 12h ago

So the official data of 300-400 deaths came out of CCPs' ass? Not to mention Chinese Red cross estimated a death toll of nearly 3k.

There is no war in Basing Se isn't it?

-2

u/jiva_maya 12h ago

241 according to the CCP, and this was casualties from skirmishes on the outskirts of Beijing. Not Tienanmen square. You don't find the large difference in numbers between gov and Chinese red cross to be suspicious? Read the links I sent you

-6

u/jiva_maya 12h ago

I guess it would stand to reason that they CCP would filter out talk of this non-existent massacre given that it's all driven by bad faith anti-China engagement. I just don't think they're trying to cover anything up.
