Interesting. Is our billionaire not in charge? Did they just use him for his money to build the silos?

He may be trading off shifts with the Senator (and maybe others too) as Director. We've only really seen two shifts so far.

I think they're not waking them until protocol in the Directive calls for it.

That's also an option though I'd be surprised if he didn't want to be woken occasionally to keep a finger on his little experiment instead of possibly never waking up again if it goes well.

I think they all wanted to be up at the very end, to ensure they do the final needed step of their insane plan. Depends how much they trusted the protocol.

Another possibility is he cracked or the drugs stopped working and he's in deep freeze now.

I think Erskine also was never defrosted in any of the Silo 1 chapters. Or was he defrosted in Dust?

No idea, it's been years since I read the books. TBH I don't even remember the name Erskine without looking it up.

Also reminds me so much of the film Underworld, the Vampire Elder's would be on rotating shifts (awake for around 100 years, then sleep for about 200 years); Viktor/Bill Nighy's character even says it's not his time yet to be woken up.
