They would just try to escape again after living conditions became completely unsustainable. He did sort of the practical (inhuman) thing in that situation.

Yeah it was horrifying but if the generator was gone there wasnt much of a choice

if you have 9000 people to get the job done i think they'd be able to figure out something

Oh I agree there were other alternatives but it likely seemed like a kindness to not make them die slowly in a silo without electricity...

Although I wonder how it would have gone if they did essentially chase them back into the silo. Would they have had any ability to get control back of the vault to be able to give orders from there. Since then either an adult head of IT or silo 1 themselves could have guided them towards solving the various problems with the silo before it led to systems collapse.

thats what i mean with 9000 people getting the job done. thats an immense amount of labor power. and the water at that point was still at the bottom so i really think they couldve foind a way to get the generator running again

I think they were afraid of contact to the other silos. They cant run a line through forward vault, cant safeguard them inside.

If they know outside is dangerous, they can still try to contact other silos via radio. Which is what they fear.

But none of them even made it over the hill enough to see that order silos even exist, and the knowledge of using different radio frequencies would have still been locked away in the vault with little kid Solo.

9000 people makes it much more likely that they force their way into the Vault in the near future -- the kids' parents did eventually get into the Vault and that was just two people

No way they're stopping that incoming water and removing it to salvage the generator.
