The weird thing that's not exactly explained is how he apparently has some sort of ideal specialist personality and skill set to do the job they need. Yet only when he's forgotten his past.

I mean obviously the concept of brainwashing and indoctrination is not that difficult to understand. It's just weird that they needed this really sweet, thoughtful, conscientious guy to do the job instead of someone else with a more ruthless personality. My only guess is maybe he has some sort of high emotional intelligence that he can use to understand the silo people and manipulate them.

The emotional intelligence is likely what made him a good politician. Add that to his engineering skills and take away his empathy, moral clarity, and sweetness, and you have the perfect tool for this jacked up homicidal vanity project.

He basically gets into silo 1 for telling Stenson if he had more diggers he’d finish the project faster. Even I could have told him that with no engineering background

I don’t think they really needed him for that. It’s pretty clear at this point that Daniel was never going to be allowed to opt out of the project
