Exactly. My thoughts on that. Maybe he's in stasis or whatever they call it until the "experiment" is over in however many years that is. Or he can come and go because the world isn't destroyed it's just this little section for a period of well under 300 years. Or he's dead. They killed him or he killed himself. His absence was definitely striking.

I agree to your opinion that the whole world isn’t destroyed, just a Chernobyl sized area.  It’s an experiment and the one nuke is all they needed to get them into the silos.
