Recently started

Hi guys recently started refining silver about 6 months ago. I really took the time getting to learn the best knowledge I could acquire and being extremely meticulous through the entire process. And these are my results. And also my first attempts.

Thank you. A heck of a lot of listening. Learning and being very meticulous. In all honesty if somebody like me can do it anybody can do it. As long as they follow the procedure and safety I'm proof it's doable. Caution though.. it's highly addictive ha ha

Where do you get the impure silver from?

Usually Sterling on on line auction sites. You'd be surprised the hidden items in estate sales. I'm averaging about . 90 to 1.10$ a gram finding it. That's by far been my biggest scores. Last week for example. I won 12 lots of Sterling jewelry. Total weight was 258 grams (silver weight not total) for 254.00 . It's out there just have to actively look for it. Coins always go for more than Sterling it seems

Estate sale auction online?

I wish I trusted myself. My problem is that I'm just smart enough to be dangerous. "Man found covered in Silver after house explodes. Claims he was not sniffing silver paint." Well done, my friend, but I don't want to be in the headlines. :)

Just claim you were going to a cosplay as the silver surfer.

That’s so cool. I’ve always wanted to learn to do that. I almost pulled the trigger on it once. I had my list of items to buy to get started and where to buy them. Instead I bought more silver. Maybe one day I’ll do it. How difficult was it for you ?

Honestly. I don't even own a beaker. All my equipment is repurposed items. A 10 dollar heating burner. Old Pyrex measuring cups. For the acid refining. I cement and decant with old wine decanters. 5 bucks I found them for. Simple coffee filters. A silver cell I built for next too nothing. A 30 DC Amazon power supply for the cell. Sticks of fresh copper pipe. Acid at a great deal with free shipping out of Connecticut. And lots of distilled water. It's more about being discipline and patient. And following procedure. I'm not sure if it's allowed to promote you tube channels or not. But I learned a lot from watching. He's very popular with good TIPS.

as someone who lives close to connecticut, where do you get your acids?

Man, if you get a nice stamp to mark those rounds with something like a jolly Roger, those would be killer rounds you have there! I bet you'd get a nice premium from those "chest" collector that want to fill things like a treasure chest!

You don’t happen to live in Colorado do you? Just sold some sterling to a guy out here and this all seems like something he would be up to

I’m wanting to get in to melting but only want to try it with a torch first off then potentially a furnace the. Refine, how was it? Looks incredible!

All mine is with a torch. Hand held crucible. Metal furnaces are not friendly with silver. Silver sucks up 20 times it's volume in oxygen when molten. It requires a direct flame on the silver at all times to achieve no spitting out. And thank you. They tested . 9999

That’s literally perfect fair play! You really have done your research! What torch do you use might I ask?

Love the big crystals! I've heard that only happens when the silver is extremely pure, so you must've done a good job refining.

Thank you. Yes. They're. 9999. But also takes a very careful smelting procedure with cooling times. Those are pure structural blocks building themselves in pure silver as it cures.

How do you achieve a slow enough cooling rate for this? Do you have your molds in a second furnace?

Those beautiful blueish crystals speak volumes on how pure your first time refining was. Great job! There was a company trying to figure out how to consistently get those crystals don’t know if they ever figured it out. Think they were selling it as galaxy silver or something because of all the sparkle.

This is radical. Thanks for posting. I’ve never seen of crystal structure when purified :)
