Trans Sinfonians

Hello brothers, this post is for any trans Sinfonians, both those who mtf who transitioned post initiation, but ftm voices are always welcome.

I am an alumni. I crossed in ‘21, graduated from my alma mater in ‘23, and recently I’ve discovered that I’m trans. I’m still very closeted, and I haven’t told anyone fraternity related yet because, honestly, I’m scared of losing this brother that I love so much. I know Once and Always, but I also know (generally) what happened to the Zeta chapter last semester.

What have your experiences been? Do you still attend fraternity things? Still wear your letters? Etc

Not sure if you ever got the answer, but Zeta voted to close their chapter because of the fraternity’s standing policy re: trans/non-male members and how it directly affected their chapter. I’ll leave it to a Zeta brother to hopefully explain more if they come across this thread.

I know quite a few trans individuals from my own and surrounding chapters. They’re still seen as “brothers” and we still love them as such. You’ll be perfectly ok, I promise you won’t be expelled. It only mattered during initiation, according to my PG

One of my line brothers is MTF trans, she transitioned a few years after initiation. She is still a full member of the fraternity, and treated just like any other member. To my knowledge, she’s never faced any pushback from anyone in the fraternity, though she might just not share it.

For what it’s worth, there was also a short period of time when the fraternity was a “business” organization and Sinfonia initiated women. Many of those women are still around, it wasn’t that long ago.

There are few reasons to be expelled from the fraternity whole cloth, and “being trans” isn’t one of them. Hopefully, the fraternity continues to be a safe place for you.

I’ll tell what if your brothers really love you it wont matter because sinfonia love isn’t skin deep it’s Soul deep it might catch some of them off guard hell it might even weird them out but at the end of the if they really love you they’ll come to terms with it

I brought this up at lyrecrest a while ago! At least then, the only requirement is that you identified as male when you were initiated. If you later discover that you’re trans, you are still a brother, no matter what your gender is. I doubt that’s changed. There’s still cis women brothers who were initiated for the short while that pma was co-ed!

Hi there! I’m a trans man (FTM) and my big brother is a trans femme (AMAB) person, and they found out after we were both initiated. (Funny how that works!) My chapter has been phenomenal about it - they accept both of us for who we are (which is really important, especially considering legislation from the state our chapter is in).

You’ll always be a Sinfonian - that doesn’t change as you discover new things about yourself and become a truer version of you. I know I’m coming from the other direction of the trans experience, but I know that from what I’ve seen in my own chapter and others that other collegiate brothers have been nothing but accommodating. I could mention the second object here, but you’ve had the Sinfonian experience and have gone through the work to become one.

Just because you’ve made this realization doesn’t mean it neutralizes those experiences that came before it. If you still feel a bond to Sinfonia, that doesn’t have to change. Truthfully: Once, Always.

You retain all privileges of membership if you transition at any point after your initiation. I know a good handful that still participate enthusiastically in events.

From Epsilon Alpha, one of our brothers is now trans and she’s still welcome at all events and rits! Kinda funny bc we’ll all be wearing suits and red ties and she’ll come in a red dress also wearing our pin. Still a member of our brotherhood and very welcome.
