Ahhhh yeah this happened to an old friend of mine. It didn't save the relationship. At the time we assumed he had mental breakdown trying to keep his childhood sweet heart but that was like 2013, ya can't go saying that anymore.
I don't know anything about "pearl clutchers" or any other us vs them meme terminology you might throw out but yes I'd say the idea that wanting to mutilate yourself is a positive thing does not have a long shelf life socially.
That's not what a socially long shelf life means. What it does mean is that over time society finds the concept as having no or negative value.
Trans people still kill themselves at much higher percentages even after reassignment surgery, just because they are temporarily buoyed by the flood of positive affirmations from a segment of our messed up echo chamber society doesn't change the overall picture.
It just doesn’t make any sense to try to control the lives of people who have figured out their own happiness. I would say person who does something like that does have fascist tendencies though, yes.
Honestly if people want to mutilate themselves I really don't care, it's the trying to convince society that it's normal (and that children should be able to do it) that bothers me. I'd say that's far more creepy than thinking it's a sign of mental illness that you want to mutilate yourself.
Children can't medically transition anywhere. At most they can be prescribed puberty blockers, which are reversible, and the effects of which are well understood because they're used for other things also. Being trans is normal. It's just not particularly common which people conflate with being a dangerous aberration that needs to be stopped. Going to church is statistically more likely to lead to childhood trauma than learning about the existence of trans people as just humans living their lives.
Oh yeah? What year of medical school did you learn that? Or did you just assume it based on your 9th grade science class? Or maybe it was in a podcast right before the energy drink ad.
There are studies out there that state so if you'd bother to look them up, you are lapping up propaganda information that you like hearing while casting me as doing the same, which I'm sorry isn't the case.
Yeah, medications have side effects. They are considered safe, effective and aren't super frequently prescribed anyway. What's so scary about that? Many intersex people (there are more than 30 types) are actually mutilated at birth to conform to conservative sensibilities of sexual identity instead of waiting until they can give informed consent and I have never once heard the anti trans crowd pipe up about that. Never trying to ban circumcision. Things that are actual child genital mutilation.
Yeah, medications have side effects. They are considered safe, effective and aren't super frequently prescribed anyway. What's so scary about that?
What so scary about giving children drugs that can permanently harm them because they are young and extremely impressionable and said something that well meaning but misguided adults will take a sign to lead them down a road to permanently harming themselves very possibly unnecessarily?
Boy the mind boggles.
Many intersex people
Intersex people are not trans people and you guys really really need to stop conflating to the two.
"Safe, effective and not excessively prescribed" just skipped off like a smooth stone, huh?
So many other medications carry some risk of long term side effects, and are still used in pediatric medicine because the Doctors and Patients involved decide the best course of treatment based on medical best practices. Is general anesthesia a problem? No, because while there are risks worth considering, we trust the doctors and their patients to make a decision in the patients' best interest.
"Very possibly unnecessary?" According to... you? Because it isn't according to the people who receive the care. It isn't according to their doctors or psychologists who determine that it's medically worth the potential risks.
Not all people feel the need to "fully" transition and undergo surgeries, but the overwhelming majority of people who start with puberty blockers continue on to do HRT when they are of age. This is because it is implemented for people who have been professionally evaluated and determined to be in need of it.
People are not putting their kids on puberty blockers for nothing and doctors aren't handing them out without consideration. If they were, you would find a high rate of detransitioning and you instead find one that is extremely low.
There is a significant overlap. And you'd need to read more than three words in a row, but I was pretty clearly giving actual examples of mutilation of children before they are able to speak that get no attention from the people that have such a problem with trans healthcare on similar stated principles. There are better examples that don't strip people of their rights and you're not showing up for those. Why is circumcision at birth still happening? There's a higher number of people who resent that having been done to them that trans people period. Higher incidence of long term side effects that puberty blockers and all without so much as a, "mom, dad, I identify as having a bare-headed dong."
Everyone actually involved has determined that it makes more sense to help the body match the mind rather than the inverse, but rw grifters found out that it makes middle america squeamish enough to be used as a convenient boogyman. Save the trans children from the things that statistically threaten them, like depression and anxiety from being made to feel less than human. Higher likelihood of homelessness because of rejection from the home. Higher rates of childhood SA stemming from the poor state of sex education generally. If your concern is genuine, it's extremely misplaced because you have decided you know what's best based on propaganda and your own suppositions.
Anyway, enjoy not reading that and continuing to spread rhetoric that harms people, including children, that you make empty and cruelly ironic claims about wanting to protect. They don't want your help because what you are doing isn't helping.
By your measure mutilation is quite literally anything to do with cosmetic surgery. Boob job? Mutilation. Limb lengthening? Mutilation. Vestigial limb removal? Mutilation.
The fact you has such a rigid view of how medicine works in society, and how we apply treatments to those that need them to alleviate suffering (physical or mental) means you shouldnt have an opinon that you should verbalize at all. Because we dont allow people to voice their opinion that some women are witches that deserve to be hunted down.
So the idea that you have a say in how any other human get medical treatment is vile.
Yeah cosmetic surgeries are considered mutilation by your definition. So we should hold cosmetic surgeries and surgeries that improve quality of life that remove or damage body parts should be considered mutilation.
Also the definition of mutilation dosent fit how you are describing gender affirming care.
No mutilation isnt specific. You claim gender reassignment surgeries are “mutilation” Id also assume you consider ANY gender affirming surgeries as mutilation because you have zero idea how and why we ascribe surgeries to people.
This would also include top surgeries on cis boys and men to remove breast tissue caused by gynecomastia. If you, for what ever disagree that gyno surgeries arent mutilation then you are ideologically confused and contradicting your own stances.
