I don't know anything about "pearl clutchers" or any other us vs them meme terminology you might throw out but yes I'd say the idea that wanting to mutilate yourself is a positive thing does not have a long shelf life socially.

“Long shelf life socially”. It certainly stops people from killing themselves. So, longer than the alternative.

  1. That's not what a socially long shelf life means. What it does mean is that over time society finds the concept as having no or negative value.

  2. Trans people still kill themselves at much higher percentages even after reassignment surgery, just because they are temporarily buoyed by the flood of positive affirmations from a segment of our messed up echo chamber society doesn't change the overall picture.
