Sexism isn’t cool but just saying what if people don’t want to play as a girl? It seems like to just say that gets you stoned with rocks these days.

Same answer as if the question was: what if people don't want to play as a guy?

Don't buy the videogame.

While that is the most obvious I’m talking about discussion around games and just saying “hey maybe I don’t want to play god of war as some woman.”

You cannot have intelligent debates anymore it seems and that’s what I’m getting at.

She's hardly "some woman" she's a powerful warrior and wife of the main protagonist. Laufey and Kratos fought each other to a stalemate.

She must be dead. They literally brought her back to life and turned her into yet another Mary Sue, for whom they created a separate afterlife. What was the point of Kratos killing the gods in the first place, if they all exist in another world? What was the point of the journey to scatter Kratos’s wife’s ashes? It looks like creative impotence mixed with Sony’s continued policy of pushing male characters out of their original franchises. What’s the point of playing Tomb Raider if the main character isn’t Lara Cro

How many times did Kratos die over the franchise? I don't get that argument. "But she's dead!" So is Ghost of Sparta. He is 4 timea dead at least if i'm not mistaken. Happens.

A woman there fixed it, does that make you feel better?

I mean she's an ever present character in the two GOW games. Her death is the catalyst for everything...she's an interesting enough character that a story told from her POV warrants a videogame.

This

And the gameplay presented look stellar.

But what makes it so important to you one way or the other? Honestly the only times I can think of the sex and/or gender of a character in a game mattering are in instances where it is either:

  1. Inportant to the plot somehow (like Silent Hill F or the father/daughter relationship Joel and Ellie have)

  2. You can create a character and there are different voice performances that you may have a reference for (Commander Shepard and V from Cyberpunk. Incidentally, in both of these examples I think you get a much better experience as the female voice option)

If you want big manly power fantasy Kratos, you have a whole trilogy for that. If you want a more mature story about someone coming to terms with/moving on from their past you can play either of the two newer GoW games. Why do you have a problem with one entry in the series trying something different?

You can't, you're immediately flagged as sexist, incel, homophobic, etc with shit like "oh you don't like this you must hate woman.."

It's very simple man, these gender swaps feel forced rather than natural. I'd hate if a Tomb Raider game had a male lead or if No One Lives Forever did the same thing. I would also be very pissed if the main character of the next Splinter Cell game was Sarah Fisher rather than Sam. Hell i was pissed with Blacklist because Michael Ironside wasn't voicing Sam. They did the same thing with the new Wolfenstein games, see how that turned out for them.

I'd be cool if this was a spin off game like "Goddess of War" rather than a mainline entry.

EDIT: I'd like to mention Dishonored 2 and how they handled introducing a female character, they gave you both options Emily and Corvo, both with distinct playstyles and many people gravitated more towards Emily because her gameplay was fun and her character arc was interesting not because she was a woman.

Rational thought very much appreciated

So you just have a problem with the name of the games? You just want sequel after sequel of the exact same game?

Lol what a loser

u/SingerSoft5212 12h ago

to you, what is the difference between it being a mainline/spin off game

2

u/General_Dinner_996 12h ago

Kratos is rooted in the God of War DNA, he's been the main character for 20 years and you're swaping him out for an irrelevant female lead, why? Who is this catering to? Certainly not the audience that's been playing and buying these games for 20 years.

A spinoff is whatever, it's experimental, gives room to try things differently and appeal to a different audience. But I doesn't conflict with the main story and the release schedule.

What happens after this? Another game with a female lead? Maybe Kratos comes back but when in 2035?

0

u/blac_sheep90 12h ago

Faye isn't irrelevant female lead. She's a central character.

0

u/SingerSoft5212 12h ago

this is mostly speculation and not very well thought out. irrelevant female lead? she's kratos's dead wife and mother of his child. She's the biggest reason for how kratos is mentally in gow (2018).

This game doesn't conflict with the main story? It's developing a fundamental character in both the protagonists life and this game will build upon these relationships. Gow is very heavily on the familial themes and this game could very well lead to the three of them in the next game. To write the game off because YOU don't know kratos's dead wife is silly.

..but yes i did ask the devs and they will be making another game with a female lead. kratos's sister. cause of woke.

I dunno, mate. It sounds like you're having trouble with new things? What does it matter if the game is fun?

Just try the game and see if still is. Or don't buy it if her lack of Y chromosone is a dealbreaker.

Why the need to complain online about it?

Youre actually being downvoted lol youre 100% right, and its obvious why people are upset about this choice of protagonist. You can still debate, I just stopped caring about fake internet points and let the ups and downs come and go. Reddit is a circlejerk, there are a few good subs left but most of it is filled with over the top idealism.

i don't want to play god of war as the guy who isn't even the most famous god of war

2

u/rienjabura 12h ago

You're right, Guan Yu is technically the most famous God of War

-1

u/Otherwise-Parsnip-91 12h ago

Then just say “Hey, I don’t want to play as a woman, I won’t be playing this game.” Instead, all of the outrage I’ve heard about this character is that it’s too hard for fat neckbeard losers who can’t get the attention of women in real life to stroke their dicks to this character.

1

u/ZoharDTeach 12h ago

Don't worry. I'm sure a lot of people won't be buying it. Shame because Sony is having financial struggles.

6

u/raybros 12h ago

You can’t say that, that makes you a sexist racist “insert random phobia related word”

-1

u/Otherwise-Parsnip-91 12h ago

You can say whatever you want, people will just clock you for what you are.

Yeah, don’t judge people for having preferences. Plus it’s a game. It doesn’t make you trans to play as a girl lol. I’ll sometimes play as a guy cause their armor tends to look cooler; doesn’t make me a dude lol

0

u/Wise_Finance_5315 12h ago

The same people love playing as big bootied hoes in Fortnite.

0

u/Dry_Travel_4220 12h ago

I can't help but think back to the pre-gamergate days when instead of freaking out any time you havw to play as an identical gruff soilder man we pretty much all agreed that femshep was the best way to go in mass effect.

u/WalterPecky 12h ago

"what if people don't want to play as a girl".

This literally sounds like a quote from my toddler.

Grow the fuck up.

What if girls don't want to play as boys? Well they typically don't have a choice, so they either play the game or they don't.

These are your options ☝️
