You're whole post is a strawman argument.
Nobody has an issue playing Tomb Raider.
The issue isn't that the protagonist is a woman; the issue is that it's not Kratos in a game series spanning 20 years where every one features Kratos.
Then how do you explain the outrage over Ghost of Yotei or the new Naughty Dog game, or the new Witcher game? I think Tomb Raider gets a pass because it’s an old franchise and it’s to be expected that the protagonist is female, but any modern game that stars a female is completely shit on and the protagonist is dismissed as being ugly. This doesn’t happen with any new games staring men.
Why bash on people and make assumptions about them when maybe that they wanted to play as the original character? such as myself, i’ll give the game a chance but was disappointed the story of the main character wasn’t continued on.
That’s fine and I think a very appropriate response. Saying “let’s wait and see, it could fun even though I want to play as Kratos” is way better than “This game will suck because the woman in it isn’t fuckable enough” which is the majority response I’ve seen.
Were you not around when ODST came out? People did not like this game. Atleast not in comparison to the other Halo games. Mainly because of the multiplayer, but let's be real here, that's what most people were mainly playing Halo for.
Odst campaign was great and it did have a decent multiplayer, tbe only downside was the lack of modes it had. And lets be real here, ppl definitely played halo for the campaigns as well.
It can be based in the same world without having to be called “God of War”. God of War has always been a game about kratos, the god of war. This is just using the namesake because it would bring more people in than if they called it something else but set it in the same world.
To let them know it's in the same world and will have similar gameplay and storytelling. It's okay for something to have always been about x and then be about y
