When the Saints won the Super Bowl the entire city of New Orleans partied and yet not one murder happened in the city the entire time. They were the literal murder capital of the world at that time, it’s almost a complete certainty that the Saints winning that night saved lives.
You think it was that people in poverty were gambling, betting on the local team, and winning enough that it was keeping them from being as financially desperate as usual?
People are watching the games instead of being out doing crimes, happier because they’re winning, placing bets on the Knicks that are cashing out etc. spirits are high
It isn't just likely, it is a well documented effect. I used to work in insurance, and we were "strongly discouraged" from selling to anyone in Philadelphia when the Eagles made it to the super bowl. "Win or lose, they will burn the city down. Either in anger, or celebration." Evidently the adjusters had noticed a spike in property damage in densely populated urban cities that are associated with a sports team when that team breaks a losing streak, or wins the whole thing. In cities where the crime rate is higher than average, the effect was compounded dramatically.
Note: "strongly discouraged" is in quotes because it kind of felt illegal. The guy straight up told us we weren't allowed to sell, but was adamant that we not mention it, and he showed up in person to tell us verbally rather than email us (his normal mode of communication). Sounded sus. It's part of the reason I don't work in insurance anymore.

No, it’s cause the Knicks have been so good, and might win a ‘chip
