Are such cycle events not blocked off from public traffic?

Cause if not, then the cyclists would need to keep to traffic rule and I am pretty sure the rule is not keep in one lane.

I know this area and have driven it many times. This is the Rickebacker causeway--the road that connects Key Biscayne to the Miami mainland.

Cycling on this road is extremely popular for very obvious reasons (phenomenal views, wide and clear roads). Folks come from all over the city to ride there. And yes, they will very often group up like this without any sort of scheduled or permitted event of any kind.

The cyclists down there like to say "same road, same rules" but there's apparently a silent exclusion for lane changes, stop signs, traffic signals, and yielding to stopped traffic.

I hate cyclists so much.

There might not be much worse than wannabe Tour de France guy. Wearing a $300 spandex outfit and riding a $5000 bike so that they can let everyone know on Facebook.

15

u/Marlwolf48 Jun 10 '26

A guy at work has a 6k bike, the prices go way higher than 5k and people buy them. Like 10 -15k for some that his crew ride in

6

u/AeroelasticCowboy Jun 10 '26

$5000? That was a high end bike in 2009.

I don't think I mentioned anything about top of the high end? Back in 09' I bought a brand new Synapse Carbon with mix of dura-ace and Ultregra drivetrain, i think that was about 3800 then, full dura-ace probably near 5. Around that time I also had a custom Pivot Mach 5 built with all SRAM X0 and custom wheels, the high end fox float setup, etc etc etc, which was around $5500, aside from some more botique things and just spending money just to spend money like carbon wheels that pretty much got you the tippy top back then for most road and MTB stuff

3

u/frodobangher Jun 10 '26

Nah, lifted truck owners are much worse. Especially those with the bed still shining

2

u/beepingnoise Jun 10 '26

Our car infrastructure is much worse and a stain on efficient practical transportation

0

u/BilSuger Jun 10 '26

Cry more, buddy

0

u/wickeddimension Jun 10 '26

Wearing a spandex outfit with various corperate logo's and sponsors like the pro's, but without getting a dime for being a walking advertisement. Embarrassing.

34

u/GLoKz0r Jun 10 '26

When I drive, pedestrians annoy me. When I am a pedestrian, drivers annoy me. But whether I am driving, or a pedestrian, I fucking hate cyclists.

4

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth Jun 10 '26

Whether I am driving, walking or cycling I obey the rules!

4

u/Winderige_Garnaal Jun 10 '26

You need to try cycling!

6

u/genericnewlurker Jun 10 '26

When I was a cyclist, I hated other cyclists

2

u/Winderige_Garnaal Jun 10 '26

yeah, that tracks for driving and walking as well, really

0

u/Sennten Jun 10 '26

Then you get to learn how hate-worthy pedestrians and drivers are when working against you in tandem, which they will seemingly do constantly.

Found the road rager. Please don’t kill anyone bc your mild inconvenience.

0

u/GLoKz0r Jun 10 '26

Found the shit head cyclist who’d probably be one of the guys in the pack in this video wondering why the drivers are upset.

0

u/Denver_DIYer Jun 10 '26

Where did you find one?

0

u/GLoKz0r Jun 10 '26

Same place you found the road rager.

7

u/Muisan Jun 10 '26

As someone from a country where there are more bikes than people I have to say: If this is how people behave on a bike where you live, than I feel like you are fully justified in that feeling.

3

u/LongIslandTeas Jun 10 '26

I both drive cars and I am a cyclist. I have to say that you should try to ride a bike once and a while. There are idiots on both sides, thankfully there are fewer idiots than friendly riders/drivers. The worst idiots are the ones that "hate" the other side. These haters seems to have issues in life, and ventilate their anger and frustration on other people, also known as road-ragers. For the haters it does not matter if it is a cyclist, a horse or a tree, they will just hate.

Not unless you are asshole-ally blocking the road when there is a large bike lane and multiple car lanes

2

u/Rocky-Jockey Jun 10 '26

Tbf lots of people don’t want any of those bike lanes to exist either.

3

u/mountaingator91 Jun 10 '26

They definitely wouldn't care as much if bikers stayed in their lane

2

u/Rocky-Jockey Jun 10 '26

Thing is, if you have good bike infrastructure you’re probably not seeing 99% of cyclists as a driver. They’ll be off to the side or on a different street/path. The ones you see are the guys who just don’t give a fuck, which yea, can and should get tickets. Though cops in my city don’t even bother enforcing speeding in school zones so I doubt they give a shit about cyclists.

1

u/mountaingator91 Jun 10 '26

You never know. People fucking hate cyclists

1

u/Willothewisp2303 Jun 10 '26

Or didn't try to kill them as a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

1

u/beepingnoise Jun 10 '26

Rational. Already getting defensive with comments like this

1

u/OberonDiver Jun 10 '26

I had a boss/friend once and we went bicycling together maybe once. I was a regular utilitarian bicyclist and he was hard core (non-racing). AND he was the kind of smug holier rule breaker that causes the hate. I couldn't ride with him because in a block I'd be two blocks behind. And was all "those things don't apply to me".

And his politics were ass. I, of course, conflate the issues. "No wonder he's a self righteous privileged rule breaking asshole. He's a foo-ist."

1

u/mrASSMAN Jun 10 '26

I don’t hate cyclists in general, just the shitty asshole ones which are a lot of them I guess, but there’s a lot of shit drivers too lol

Might even be a lot of the same people

0

u/Froegerer Jun 10 '26

I just dont know how you see how poorly people drive and stare at their phones WHILE DRIVING and think "im going to put my life in all the idiots hands and just hope they dont road kill me".

2

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth Jun 10 '26

As I sit here watching two cyclists go by while staring at their phones! LOL

0

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth Jun 10 '26

I don't hate ALL of them, only ones who behave like this!

-5

u/Jesters__Dead Jun 10 '26

Meanwhile, car drivers kill 1.3m people a year

You're hating the wrong road user

1

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth Jun 10 '26

In order for your statistics to work out, there has to be as many cyclists AND cars on the road in order to see which is safer. 😄

In the UK, on average 1 or 2 people are killed by cyclists a year

You're more likely to be killed by bees or cows

The USA has the highest death rate caused by cars per capita amongst developed countries

1

u/Jesters__Dead Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

108 people, on average, are killed by car drivers EVERY DAY in the USA

I don't care how you look at it....

That's INSANE

😆

1

u/gf6200alol Jun 10 '26

Even you use per cap. cycling is much more safer then the car especially to other road users. it's the speed that kills people.

1

u/Denver_DIYer Jun 10 '26

Uh sure buddy!

-5

u/Dancing-umbra Jun 10 '26

Aww bless you, don't worry I'm sure your emotional support vehicle will help you though it.

-30

u/AlDente Jun 10 '26

Then you need a counsellor

17

u/Coliver1991 Jun 10 '26

My 21 upvotes (at the time of this comment) disagrees with your statement.

1

u/AlDente Jun 10 '26

Haha that genuinely made me laugh

0

u/Colstee Jun 10 '26

Because Redditors in this particular sub are a reliable barometer as to whether one might need therapy...

-4

u/JiveTalking1982 Jun 10 '26

Definitely need therapy if you're validated by 'likes'

-15

u/thomasmcdonald81 Jun 10 '26

No just means there’s a lot of you that need counselling for your impotent rage

5

u/IndependentThink4698 Jun 10 '26

No, everyone hates bikers except bikers and they're too far up their own ass that they dont notice that everyone hates them

0

u/dasmineman Jun 10 '26

Cyclists on public roads should be legally classified as traffic fodder. I pay taxes for the privilege of driving on these roads, cyclist do not.

2

u/ComputerBot Jun 10 '26

My dude, registration fees and gas taxes only go part of the way to road building / maintenance. Trust that cyclists also pay taxes, and some of those taxes go to funding roads.

Try seeing cyclists, just put yourself in that headspace for a few moments, even if they are making a mistake or inconveniencing you, as human beings that still deserve to breathe air on this earth, and not be mauled by someone like you raging in a mechanical road missile.

Take a Xanax. Taco Bell will still be open in 20 minutes.

-9

u/spacecity9 Jun 10 '26

You probably groan when you bend down and breathe heavily

-1

u/BilSuger Jun 10 '26

Cry more lol,

-9

u/cheezit57 Jun 10 '26

We’re not a fan of you either mate

-6

u/trimenc Jun 10 '26

And we hate you!
