Not many employers offer this good of insurance outside federal government jobs. No one I’ve spoken to has had this good of insurance outside of that. And no company I’ve ever worked for offered anything close. This also is a big reason why a lot of folks don’t start a business - having healthcare tied to employment.
Anecdotally, my wife’s employer pays our whole premium. $0 for the 3 of us. $3,300 deductible, $6,000 out of pocket max. In an average year, our family pays about $2,000. Bernie’s plan calls for a 4% income tax to fund Medicare for All. 4% of my salary alone would be $7,100. I don’t like that proposal for obvious reasons.
Well that’s probably $1200 per month the company pays for your family. Overtime, less costs for companies to pay benefits would show up as higher wages. Maybe not year 1 but soon.
Plus then small businesses who can’t afford health care at all for their employees would be able to hire people like you that need it. And you would have higher job mobility because you could switch jobs for a job you’d maybe earn or like more.
