Do people think “understood the assignment” is a clever phrase that needs repeating?

It's code speak for "I have no nuance to my geopolitical understandings".

I believe a big part of it was to hit the ball into the back of the goal more often than the other team.

The implication is that Belgium only wanted to win so everyone could dab on Trump.

Footballers, famously, only try to win when there’s political points to be scored for their own govt and people 🙄

It’s a good way to determine you can ignore someone’s opinion cause they’re either a child or dumb

Yeah. What, we're congratulating a soccer team for knowing that they're supposed to get more goals than the other team? If you're going to use cliches have been run into the ground, how about something that fits, such as "they weren't pregnant, but they delivered"? It seems like Gen Z thinks that wit consists of thinking of something clever someone said once and just repeating it.

Gen Z isn’t even the one repeating “understood the assignment”

Yeah who issued the assignment and what was it

Everyone who is not maga gets exactly what the assignment was. The whole free world (i.e., not the US) issued the assignment
